i disagree that thorfinn is stronger in this fight because askeladd is not even trying to win the duel he was just defending and teaching him something

2025-06-20 15:26:58 +0000 UTCI agree with Kenny, I think Askeladd knows Thorfinn has progressed to a point that if he took him on in a straight up honorable fight there's a chance Thorfinn might either actually get one over on him OR that he would have to kill Thorfinn which he doesn't want to do at this point because it's not only a waste of a great warrior in his group but that he does still feel some small amount of guilt for what he did to Thors who he actually respected as a warrior and as a man.

2025-06-12 17:25:21 +0000 UTCThe way I look at the moment in the duel when Askeladd is trying to rile up Thorfinn, is more of Askeladd trying to impart a lesson on to Thorfinn. What I mean by that, is I think Askeladd is trying to point out Thorfinn's weaknesses in battle, because in his own twisted way he's kind of rooting for Thorfinn to win. So him doing the whole 'I don't remember your father' thing was his way of showing Thorfinn what he was saying at the dinner party, 'Everybody is a slave to something', in this case- vengeance.

Kenny’s (from AoT) line where he says “everyone is a slave to something” is actually likely a reference to Askeladd’s line, as the manga for Vinland Saga actually released years before AoT despite its very late adaptation. In fact, this year the Vinland Saga manga celebrated its 20th birthday.

With heavy emphasis on the fact that yalls reactions are done WITH the content in the video itself. So many others I've looked into are all "watch alongs" where YOU have to have the content and play the reaction at the same time. (So you have to have two different videos playing at once and sync them up right) So much appreciation for yalls phenomenal content!

But we’re only 8 episodes and we haven’t seen much of askeladd’s character so why would they kill him off/ have him defeated so early into the story. I definitely think the rest of the series will surprise you in how it plays out. Enjoying the theories and deep discussions so far

2025-06-11 16:36:39 +0000 UTCKenny. Quick note, remember that Askeladd has been shown to be pretty fast on his feet when he fought Thors and was actively starting offence during that fight . During this duel with Thorfinn, he barely moved much and only responded to Thorfinn attack, not because Thorfinn was a bigger threat but possibly because he didn't want to kill Thorfinn, which was why he provoked him psychologically instead.
