Comments

yeah Iv'e already seen this and then started C2 a few months ago, I was like oh oh I got that refrence

Hunter Biberos

Montana. Montana I have been having God's worst April. And that doctor who joke had me in TEARS laughing. Thank you oh my goodness. That's going in my Good Things library.

KT Bees

It would really cool if you guys could do like a Patreon only reaction to Dimension 20s campaigns. It would be so cool to see Montana’s reaction to them. Especially fantasy high considering that’s their first campaign

Jules

Definitely a fun red herring, especially seeing people going between "it's the creepy guy" and "no that's too obvious and is probably a coincidence" 🤣 I've so far not seen any one question whether it's a different council member 🤣

Phoenix Mackenzie

Can't believe he fell for that 🤣

HBelmont 24

I love that these videos come out on Mondays bc thats when I dm my dnd group haha Mondays are for the dnd XD Also as im sure you have started to notice the cast is soooo stacked haha and the main cast you have heard ALL OVER (like Laura who plays Vex is Lust and Travis who is Grog is Roy Mustang from FMA!) I'm pretty sure they have all been in a show yall have watched. Let alone all the side characters haha (like having the singer Logic play the guard that pets trinket and stops them in episode 1 lol)

AuroraZero_

Also the character Allura, the voice Montana really enjoyed, is voiced by Indira Varma; who was Ellaria Sand in Game of Thrones

dannydarko27

I remember being ecstatic when they announced Tennet was joining the cast. THen I was quickly disheartened when I found out he was going to be Krieg since it was a short role

dannydarko27

The book 'Tusk Love' you see in the shop was an on-going joke during the second Critical Role campaign, "The Mighty Nein". Consequently, the "Might Nein" animated series is supposedly going to be released late this year. Hopefully you'll react to that series as well when it is released.

BlueEyedRaven

Also Brennan and Matt are good friends, in general they’re all friends. Brennan made all of us cry, including Matt, in the latest EXU mini campaign. Matt and Brennan have DMed for each other in each other’s channels.

patricia jimjimcherie

YESSSS PLEASE!!!

patricia jimjimcherie

As someone who also makes the Doctor, Who?? joke all the time I clocked that immediately 😂😂

patricia jimjimcherie

I don't know if someone else has said it but since you were talking about intros, please please please watch their intro they made for episode 50 of campaign 1. You'll get to see the cast and put faces to the voices better!

CharlieDaisy

Lol NVM got the name at the end lol didn't know that was him lol

Babybear47

I'm loving grogs jokes/saying lol really funny

Babybear47

Idk his name but the counselor trader guy his voice actor sounds like hiccups dad from how to train your dragon?! Lol idk

Babybear47

I already knew Scanlan was 69, and yet, it still makes me laugh. 🤣

H-Bomb 24

I like that they first exploit the arrogance and egoism of the dragon with the illusion and then they go for the weak spot. They really made the most of what Gilmore gave them.

David Bodor

No, forreal

H-Bomb 24

Not sure if it's been mentioned yet but they originally crowd funded the episodes and were THRILLED to be able to fund just the first one with a goal of maybe doing the second episode. What they ended up doing was breaking records and being able to fund a short season. The idea was to adapt parts of their story, they wanted to always leave things open to do more but to have a complete story told in case they never got to do anymore. Which is why we get the introduction then defeat of a dragon so early on. That was it, that was the pipe dream they all thought they could pull off. By this point, fans of the live plays are overjoyed by the direction it's taking. They really did an amazing job adapting and adding things while keeping the overall structure of the first campaign mostly intact. Then Amazon went and picked them up and now this is just another part of their company. If you haven't already you should check out what inspired all this and made them even seriously consider the animated show. In their second campaign Sam Riegel (voice of Scanlan) was doing one of his bits for the advertisers at the top of the show. The company was DND Beyond, he came up with a catchy little jingle. They ended up turning the jingle into a little short animated clip, which served as an ad for DND Beyond but also proof of concept. The cast nearly broke down with how amazing it was to see their characters animated for even a few seconds. Then they ended up doing an animated intro complete with music performed by some of the cast. From there it was pretty much if we can go from clip, to intro why not an episode with a stretch goal of 2-3? And now we have 3 whole seasons.

J Valentine

Vex & Vax are 27, Keyleth 23. Percy is the youngest but we don't know his specific age, only that he is younger than 23. Pike is early 40s and Scanlan is 69, gnomes aging slower. Grog we don't know for sure, only that he is a little younger than Pike but close to her age.

DracoMint

Bearded Grog is better imo, regarding Kiki, I wanna see her get the leaf cloak/mantle

David Bodor

SPOILERS Going back to the characters' original designs (clean-shaven Grog, green outfit Keyleth, etc) certainly is a trip. Tell you the truth l? I kinda prefer everyone's S1 looks.

H-Bomb 24

Yeah, I'm showing my age a bit. My playing days were during 3e.

Robert Bonfante

One thing that sets this show apart from other similar shows is that TLOVM avoids the "Shonen" trappings of having teenage or YA protagonists. The Vox Machina crew are grown -- dealing with adult issues and viewing the world from a more jaded adult point of view. And I find it refreshing.

Robert Bonfante

Ha! I had a feeling it wasn't actually fince, and that it was a bait and switch. They were making it WAY too "obvious" 🤣

Jinchuriki87

Yeah I'd generally say that DMPC is specifically a negative term because it implies the person is trying to play both sides of the story, basically just writing a book with extra steps. Nothing wrong with having a self insert NPC as long as you don't try to make the story about them. That's the inherent conflict of interest that elevates it to DMPC. Luckily Allura was never that, she was always important but always as a background character (plus iirc most of her importance was the players forcing her into the story, rather than the other way around)

David L

This campaign is especially cool because they started midway through, so they were around 10th level I think at this point. So we get to see some higher level spells and abilities than one might normally expect. Plus, we've basically already passed the "now we are a real team" honeymoon phase and got to the jaded "what are we even still traveling together for" phase. Which yeah, is a pretty interesting and unusual dynamic to see portrayed.

David L

Definitely the right call to have Pike accompany Vax to Gilmore's. There was no way they'd get anything done otherwise.

H-Bomb 24

I genuinely love hearing Kenny make all these dnd comparisons, really interesting to see how much it correlates

Big K

Interesting, I am guessing those are the 3.5 versions of the spell? Which is probably what their game was more based on since it started off as a Pathfinder campaign. In 5e Bigby's hand is a single spell that you can instead choose to do any of those individual actions that the formerly separate spells achieved.

Drake

Hahahahh doctor who joke I love it

MaSeshield9277

Ha ha

H-Bomb 24

The cringe was real. I was really empathizing with Kenny in that moment.

Robert Bonfante

Yes, since they skip Kraghammer and the whole 8th player situation

David Bodor

I believe they were as high as level 11 at the start of the coming arc. I could be wrong, though.

Robert Bonfante

I also think it was renamed to give Scanlan a more defining identity for the show. The spell is actually a series of spells, such as Bigby's Crushing Hand, Bigby's Clenched Fist, etc. On a less show associated tangent, I believe I once saw a picture of Bigby in a really old module or sourcebook, and he looks like someone who would design a bunch of spells based on a giant fist. He was definitely giving "wizard who spends three hours a day at the gym" vibes.

Robert Bonfante

How many Vanias has the Briarwood Castled?

Kristopher Sy

Dang, I can hear it.

H-Bomb 24

I think Montana would really like dimension 20, it's an amazing way to experience D&D. It was the first d&d live play i sew and it really made me full in love with the game, also the fact that it's shorter campains and it's not the typical d&d settings make you see how versatile the game is.

Goliver the weird Droid

Sunil Malhotra (Gilmore) is ALSO the voice of Prince Wu from Korra!

Cameron Dougherty

So in D&D (or at least 5e) Mage Hand is little more than a form of telekinesis that can only move/lift light objects. Scanlan I beleive primarily uses a spell known as Bigby's Hand which is basically a higher level version that can be used to crush, attack and move larger objects/creatures with a giant spectral hand. But for the show was renamed Scanlan's Hand for legally distinct/trademark reasons.

Drake

Yeah! Laura Bailey confirmed it in a tweet back in 2015! I think it went something like "All these ships, Vex needs to find herself a man. Or woman."

Sunset

"The Doctor." "Who?"

Cameron Dougherty

Hearing Montana point out the detail of Gilmore earrings just demonstrates how attentive she's gotten to animation on this channel. Our girl's come so far.

H-Bomb 24

The guards cuddling Trinket while Vox Machina was in the meeting was so cute. 🥰

H-Bomb 24

I knew about Vax and Keyleth, but I didn't know about it Vex

H-Bomb 24

Montana kinda hit it on the head w the sugar daddy comment🤣

Alayna Petty

Gilmore is indeed the Vax (and by association Vox Machina) sugar daddy and we love him. Fun fact: both of the twins are canonically bi! And, unless I'm remembering wrong, so is Keyleth! Definitely looking for next reaction and to your reactions to the rest of the show, this show is just so incredible!

Sunset

Has anyone else here seen the remake of Voltron on Netflix?? Every time they say Allura I get excited. It’s one of my core shows along with Korra and She-Ra, so I hope they watch it too one day

Alayna Petty

So excited for next ep, that's when it really kicks off in my opinion

wanira 11

"You always are at the same level as your companions." So what you're saying is . . . There's no solo leveling.

H-Bomb 24

I freaking called it that Kenny would love Grog's rage moments the most.

H-Bomb 24

Scanlan's Hand definitely deserves its own YouTube counter. 😂

H-Bomb 24

All the stuff that happened in these 2 episodes is from a long while before they started streaming. From this point they skip the first couple arcs that were streamed and go into the third where the story really starts to pick up.

Cube Pylum

"Is this a boyfriend?" "I was thinking sugar daddy." Nope, Montana's got it. 😂

H-Bomb 24

They're not lvl 1, they have been together already for a while when the show starts and the stream also started after this plotline, so this was pre-stream actually. They were lvl 9 when the stream started so they'd be maybe lvl 8 in these two episodes.

David Bodor

Finsk was a really well-done red herring. The almost made it TOO obvious that he was the dragon, only for Krieg to be revealed.

H-Bomb 24

Also while milestone leveling where everyone levels at the same time when certain events happen is common and is used for campaign 2 and 3, campaign 1 used experience leveling and the characters were slightly different level. Thats a less popular way to play because it almost makes it a competition as you get more exper8ence for killing the creature and it punishes players for missing sessions. This game began as dnd 4e for the first birthday session then moved to pathfinder for future sessions and then dnd 5e for the streaming portion because it feels better for filming. As someone who never played pathfinder 1e but do play pathfinder 2e I got to say good choice. A lot more decisions and complexity is in pathfinder

Suplee215

That Doctor Who bit was really funny. Good one, Montana. 🤣🤣

H-Bomb 24

Plot wise we are in the middle of the story. They did begin at level 1 but that was before they began to stream. They began the stream with a story arc we don't see here and they were about level 7 or 8 I think and that seems to mash with where they are. This story was actually never in the stream as well although we did hear about elements of it. For the kickstarter the first goal was for a 1 hour never before seen story of vox machina animated and that's what the first 2 episodes are.

Suplee215

Allura is voiced by Indira Anne Varma, however, in the liveplay campaign, Matt has mentioned many times that she is the character he put the most of himself in as. She is his self insert into the campaign. Some would call her a DMPC (though that is often viewed as a negative thing to have by some, mostly only because some less experienced DM's take it too far by making themselves the "hero")

Gwendolyn Vrisala

I love it 😁

H-Bomb 24

Woo! It's Machina Monday!

David Bodor

The adventure truly begins! I can't wait to see your reaction to the upcoming characters.
