I also think the Frieren wants Fren to be used to using basic spells so when she runs into demons, they'll under estimate her ability. On top of that, it lowers the possibility of accidentally killing someone with a spell thats too powerful.

Good Point! Although they aren't fighting demons right now. I wonder if people with experience like denken and Wirbel fight the same way when they're fighting demons or if they switch it up. While true demons have been hiding monstersamd dungeons have been still around and fighting other mages is also unlikely since there aren't that many around these days plus it's illegal (which doesn't matter if you're übel) So maybe it's more that there's less fighting in general and therefore less zoltraak? Rather than demons vs humans

Just a reminder, Stille are super sensitive to mana, so conjuring flowers would have the opposite effect. Conjuring anything is not a good idea in general.

Zoltraak is extremely destructive to the environment as shown dozens of times throughout the show. Frieren didn't use it against Aura and instead used Dispel, because that causes the least damage, even though it is way more coatly in terms of mana.

I work at a rec center with a playground in the middle of a city. Every year around this time or a month earlier or later a hawk shows up. Yea irs cool. Basically just hangs out the baseball and football fields for a few months.

Himmel scolded Frieden for using flashy spells that are impactful and big scale damaging. The first commenter said that, that is why frieren (and fern) have the philosophy that using basic spells in combat is enough. That is under the misconception that zoltraak is not a flashy spell, even though it is, given the impact and damage it causes, which directly goes against Himmels scolding (which was about the value of human corpses not human lifes.) In Frieren vs Aura pt 2, we see Himmels philosophy at work since Frieren is not using zoltraak or similar spells but a dispelling spell, which is *not* considered flashy bc no matter how much effort/mana it takes or how complicated the spell is, it is not considered "flashy" a la Himmels philosophy. Point is, zoltraak is a flashy spell bc of the damage it does and Frierens Philosophy about using only basic combat spells against mages of this era has nothing to do with Himmels Philosophy of valueing human dignity by treating human corpses with respect and not carelessly causing damage. The undoing of a spell is not considered flashy. Zoltraak the demon killing spell is considered flashy. Frieren and Ferns combat strategy has nothing to do with what Himmel said in Graf Granats Domain

Well, yes, but in that interaction I interpreted it as Himmel not being annoyed at the "flashy spell" but that Frieren was using it to destroy/damage the armor puppets. Himmel scolded Frieren's disregard and apathy for what was human life. So in Frieren vs Aura round 2, Frieren still uses a flashy spell. But instead of damaging the armor puppets, she just dispelled Aura's control even though past Frieren and Aura would consider it to be inefficient and using more mana than necessary as she could just use ordinary offensive magic to mow them all down.

I do think that by only using basic attack and defend it gives Fern a massive edge in speed and number of attacks because she's not dedicating any extra thinking into deciding what spells to cast. But I have a different take as well. Flamme expressed disappointment near the end of her life that she only ever taught Frieren how to fight, and I think Frieren could be intentionally limiting the amount of combat magic she is teaching because she wants Fern's journey to be about all the joyful things magic can bring that don't involve fighting.

I'm so stupid. Forget everything I said before. You magic a field of SUNFLOWERS. Ripe ones with plenty of seed that can also support the weight of a bird as a resting place. Have some water nearby and it's perfect. Given that the sunflowers don't retain any traces of mana after they've been conjured

Theyre pretty varied in their diet but in the wild it's mostly worms. Making it rain (without Mana) or swamping a patch of dirt so the worms come out would probably do best. While also cutting off other food/water sources. Another possibility would be the American "Pirol" (Idk the English name) that bird DOES pollinate flowers and has a shorter beak than a hummingbird. It prefers shallower flowers. But you usually wouldn't find it in such a forest or in colder climates. But considering how Kanne is dressed maybe it is warm enough forhthe bird. Again I think flowers that attract caterpillars and spiders would be best. Depending on where they are on their migrating cycle fruit like an apple tree would also be good. Sparrows like bright flowers but the beaks maybe a bit too short and round to be a Stille? And they usually don't do forests without humans. But maybe in the olden Times it was different? They mainly eat seeds and leftovers, they're pretty used to people

Hummingbirds move their wings in an infinity shape and are capable of "hovering", as well as fly straight up from the ground and backwards. They're like the helicopters of birds. They're usually hovering in the air while drinking the nectar. Their beaks are specifically long and tube shaped to do so. They also have a unusually high wingbeat frequency. And they usually fly "opposite" than other birds, as in their upstroke generates more lift than their downstroke, normally it's the other way around for birds. They also need their long tail to stabilize. Stille seems to be build like the stereotypical forest bird. And they seem to fly/jump in big strokes that propel them forward. Also they're a bit chubby, so maybe a Robin? The red breasted Robin can be found in "northern lands" In our world. Based on that the diet is pretty varied Insects, worms, spiders, small fish. When it comes to plants it's usually berries, seeds and fruits rather than flowers. So maybe a spell for a Berry bush? HIMbeeren to honor Himmel? If it's a flower bed specifically you want then low laying flowers that attract caterpillars would be good but I don't know much about flowers and the insects theyaattract or how long it would take until the insects get on the flowers.

But basic offensive magic is considered "flashy" And the spells she used against Aura were not basic spells... Basic offensive spells do cause excessive damage and harm. Everytime they use basic offensive magic/Zoltraak a part of the forest gets mowed down, buildings get damaged, etc. I think this time it doesn't relate to Himmel.

Knowing what stragety to use will depend om what spells the group knows. No 2 mage has the same abilities it seems. But using spells we saw in the show i think I'll try to figure out what a stille eats. I get big hummingbird vibes. Most likely eats nectar. So make a field of it's preferred flower. Depending on how you're feeling uou can even keep the field there to keep the other stiles going so all the players are drawn to that side of the field and no one is tempted to come after you.
