2025-02-06 01:56:36 +0000 UTCI'd like to recommend Infinity Train (The show, not the demon slayer movie). Or maybe Steven Universe. After you're done with Invincible, that is
Daniel Nolt
2025-02-06 01:27:03 +0000 UTC"Infinity Train" would be an excellent follow-up to this show, and it is just a good watch in general that not enough people have seen. I'd consider it right up the alley of the kind of shows this channel watches. It's 4 seasons of 10 episodes that are around 10 minutes long each, so it's fairly easy to get through quickly. Unfortunately, the only problem is that it isn't streaming for free on any service anymore (this was a whole ordeal due to WB buying HBO), so you'd have to buy the seasons on Amazon Video or something.

2025-02-05 08:59:44 +0000 UTCIâd recommend: Steven Universe, Teen Titans, Star vs the Forces of Evil, Jentry Chau vs the Underworld, Centaurworld, Bojack Horseman, Vox Machina, Rapunzel Tangled Adventure, Kipo and the Age of Wonderbeasts, The Dragon Prince, Gargoyles, Ducktales (the new one)âŠ. I could probably come up with more, haha đ

2025-02-05 06:56:48 +0000 UTCNot western, but here's an anime recommendation: Dr. Stone - Battle shonen energy but instead of âthe power of friendshipâ or âa demon withinâ etc fueling the hype moments, itâs SCIENCE. Itâs the sort of show thatâs perfect for people who like to look in awe at humanityâs achievements with science, from big to small. It shines a light on what we take for granted and properly shows science as the coolest thing on earth lol. Where other shows will have you shouting "hell yeah kick his ass!" this show will make you say "hell yeah invent that rope!" or something like that lol - Pro or con, but itâs got mildly horny energy towards both the male and female characters lol. Thereâs no Mineta character, but definitely a few âinterestingâ camera angles and character designs. Still, I haven't seen women thirst over male shonen anime characters this hard since JJK so that's fun lol - I affectionately call it âmy favorite 7/10 animeâ lol. Itâs a perfect example of how if a showâs premise is intriguing to you, it doesnât have to be a masterpiece to feel like one. So what if the art style works better in the manga, and the characters are more archetypes than people who change? It made me cry more than once and, overall, feel uplifted in ways other shows havenât, soâŠitâs peak lol

2025-02-05 04:04:40 +0000 UTCPossible spoiler buffer! . . . There are prominent queer characters, and both the text and subtext focus on queer love and liberation. Korra crawled so Steven Universe could run, jump, do a flip, fly, etc lol. Seriously, the themes are baked so impressively and thoroughly into the show that itâs unavoidableâhence, a lot of the hate it gets online.

2025-02-05 03:58:47 +0000 UTCI'll add to the recommendations! Other people have pitched Blue Eye Samurai, Vox Machina, and Castlevania--big vouch for those shows, probably in that order. My biggest recommendation is Steven Universe. Nothing comes close to ATLA, but this is my second favorite western cartoon. I can write entire essays on it (and have), so Iâll make a real effort to be brief lol - All told from Stevenâs PoV, the show grows up with him--in terms of plot, character, and most things, really. - Top tier fantasy/sci-fi worldbuilding. If you enjoy the careful drip feed of lore from something like Gravity Falls, then youâll eat this up. - Some of the most emotionally complicated and nuanced characters and plot lines in any cartoon, full stop. There are several conflicts that shocked me not just because of the subject matter but how theyâre resolvedâor not. Needless to say, there is a LOT of discussion potential. - Possible minor meta spoiler ahead? I feel like this is the sort of thing thatâs great to not know going in but itâs also a huge selling point and contextualizes a lot of the bad faith criticism around the show...I'll put it in the replies to my own comment to try to hide it, just to be safe.

2025-02-04 18:25:09 +0000 UTCThe whole story is a retelling of Dante's inferno. The similarities are: 1. There are 10 episodes, and there are 10 layers of hell in the Inferno (if you include the vestibule and 9 circles). 2. Beatrice is a character in the Inferno that is meant to mislead the group. Originally Dante's lover, but in this story, Wirt is in love with Sarah. 3. Dante is similar to Wirt - the dress, the existential talk, writing poetry, wanting to give up. 4. Dante's friend is leading him and helping him through hell, just like Gregory is helping Wirt with his "never give up" attitude. 6. Hell appears differently to many people and the hell in Over The Garden Wall has things that the boys know in the real world. The music heard in hell is like the music in Wirt's cassete, there is a school that Greg does not want to go to, the pumpkins represent Halloween, etc. 7. In the Inferno there is a "Wood of the Suicides", in which the souls of the people who attempted or committed suicide are transformed into gnarled, thorny trees just like the Aedelwood trees in this story. 8. The Beast is at the final level, just like Lucifer is trapped in ice (icy lake) at the last level of hell. There are other similarities, but let me talk about the circles of hell a little bit in comparison to this story. In the Inferno story, everything is a lot sadder, but here it is a lot happier, but still. Many of the circles are similar to the locations in "Over The Garden Wall" (the icy lake in which Wirt falls into, the Woods with lost souls (trees), the swamps, etc.), but otherwise, the big similarities are that: 1. The pumpkins are the Limbo level/circle, they are stuck there and judged by the big pumpkin who is a stand-in for Enoch from the Inferno story, who judges Dante just like he judged Wirt and Gregory. In the Inferno, the souls are stuck in limbo since they did not believe in God or were not baptized, but in The Garden Wall, everyone is dancing and happy. The group gets to leave since they survive their sentencing and still have hope for getting home. 2. The school full of animals represents Lust. Since the teacher is lusting over her husband and can't do what is necessary to save the school without him and goes into a state of melancholic depression. Gregory gives hope to everyone and shows them that the school can still be saved without the teacher's husband. 3. The tavern represents Gluttony. Everyone in the tavern is well fed and lives in comfort, unlike many other people in the story. Greg and Wirt decide not to be comfortable and go out in the unknown, thus passing this level. 4. The rich man's house represents Greed. The horse wants to steal, the old man and the woman think that the house is their property, etc. But the group helps the pair to fall in love and thus share in their wealth + they give some money to Greg + the horse decides to do honest work = happy ending. They get to leave after Gregory throws out the 2 cents the couple gave him. 5. The frog boat represents Wrath, but it is not that obvious. The cops are trying to capture the group for not buying tickets, the frogs want to judge the naked frog, and Beatrice tries to get the kids killed by Adelaide. The frogs eventually accept Gregory's frog as their own, and Beatrice decides not to sacrifice the kids to Adelaide. Plus, the frog does not accept the record deal, returning to the group, and Gregory is willing to leave the frog to allow the frog to have a better life - the opposite of Wrath. 6. The woman with the ringing bell represents Heresy. In this case, the "heresy" is that the woman has wrongly assumed and persuaded her niece that she can't be saved. Thus they both are suffering. Greg and the group save the girl and the woman from this incorrect line of thinking by exorcising the demon from the girl. 7. The seventh circle is Violence but happens a lot sooner in Over The Garden Wall when the dog beast attacks Greg and Wirt, but they save the dog by getting the turtle that changed him into a beast out of him. 8. The ninth circle is the Circle of Fraud. The Fraud is represented by the fact that in the 8th episode Wirth gives up hope and makes all of what has happened Greg's fault+ Greg makes a deal with The Beast who is lying to him about getting them both out of the forest. 9. The ninth circle is Treachery. Treachery, at this point, is the fact that Wirt has to live with the fact that he gave up hope to get out of the forest and thus has betrayed himself and hi's brother to The Beast. He has to regain hope, belief in himself and Greg, and the fact that they can get out of here. The proof of his regained belief is the fact that he looks for Greg, frees him, and confronts The Beast. What does The Beast represent aside from Lucifer and that it is a mix of a Wendigo and Leshen? In short, The Beast is fear of the unknown. He is the voice in your head that tells you to not do what you should be doing and to risk facing the unknown (is my daughter dead, can we get out of here) and persuades you that something else makes more sense. For the Woodsman, who thinks that hi's daughter is dead, rather than going home and confronting whether that is true, The Beast persuades him that this daughter is still alive in the lantern and that he must keep the flame alive. By giving into hi's fear the Woodsman is causing pain for himself and others - the other lost souls he used as kindle. The Beast persuades Greg that by following him, he can save Wirt and help both of them get out of the woods. The lantern represents the fact that we all have fear in us and that we get to decide to either "fill it with oil" and give in to its voice or we can put it out and go willingly into the unknown.

2025-02-04 06:29:33 +0000 UTCI love this show so much. Itâs one that really comes together in these last few episodes. And it gets better on rewatch because of the intense foreshadowing and subtle details of the early episodes! I had been spoiled about the whole purgatory thing going in but even still there are TONS of things I might have never caught on my own if it werenât for a couple good YouTube breakdowns lol. Apparently, itâs stuffed with âDanteâs Infernoâ homages, from character names to episode structure. The show definitely wants some of the hard answers and mechanics of The Unknown to be open to interpretation. That said, the idea of âwandering the woods until you give in to despairâ sounds a lot like depression and âfearing the Unknownâ sounds a lot like anxietyâŠeasy to see why this show resonates with so many millennials lol đ

2025-02-03 23:57:26 +0000 UTCSince you're asking for some future shows post-Invincible, I may as well list off a few of my picks: - Castlevania (32 episodes, complete): Legendary vampire Vlad Dracula declares war on humanity, forcing drunken monster hunter Trevor Belmont, nomadic magician and storyteller Sypha Belnades, and mysterious loner Adrian ÈepeÈ to come together to hunt him down. Loosely based on the video game of the same name. (Montana's gotten a lot better at handling gore since the early days of Attack on Titan, but I'll put a warning on this one just in case: Castlevania doesn't skimp on the blood and guts, but if you could handle Chainsaw Man you should be all right here.) - Amphibia (58 episodes, complete): Thai-American teenager Anne Boonchuy finds herself magically transported to a world of giant insects and talking frogs, and must find her way back to her friends and back home while navigating the dangers of this unfamiliar world. (Created by Matt Braly, former writer from Gravity Falls, and often considered as part of a trio with the latter and The Owl House. Although in my opinion it's the least of the three, that's just because the other two are so good - Amphibia is still a well-above-average show and well worth the watch.) - Helluva Boss (21 episodes, ongoing): Abrasive imp BlitzĂž (the O is silent) operates an assassination business in the Pride ring of Hell alongside his rebellious adopted daughter Loona, neurotic sniper Moxxie, and laid-back Southern hitwoman Millie. (Spinoff set in the same universe as Hazbin Hotel, but focusing more on the setting's native Hellborn population than on angels and fallen human souls. Also, the creator of both maintains exclusive creative control over this one, unlike Hazbin which is partially owned by the distribution company.) - Jentry Chau Versus the Underworld (13 episodes, temporarily concluded pending renewal): Chinese-american teenager Jentry Chau is brought back to her childhood home in Texas with the revelation that she's being hunted by a demon named Mr. Cheng, and must use the fiery powers she's been suppressing since childhood to fight him off and close the broken gate to the Chinese underworld. (Heavily inspired by Chinese mythology. Dare I say the Percy Jackson of ancient China.) - Jojo's Bizarre Adventure (190 episodes, ongoing): A series of interweaving storylines spread over 130 years and all across the globe, centered around six (to date) protagonists with four things in common: a star-shaped birthmark on the back of their left shoulder, a familial connection to the British Joestar family, the nickname 'Jojo', and a destiny to fight evil. (A long-runner (by comparison your next longest reaction to date, My Hero Academia, was 159 episodes), but well worth it in my opinion. The part-based structure helps to keep it from getting stale; the shift between parts is similar to the difference between the Last Airbender and Legend of Korra, and each of six parts runs for approximately forty episodes, with a few exceptions.) - Blue Eye Samurai (8 episodes, ongoing): In 17th century Japan, a period in which the country's borders were closed and outsiders were heavily persecuted, self-taught swordswoman Mizu seeks revenge against her European father, who she blames for her mother's death. (I actually haven't finished this one yet, so I can't necessarily speak to its continued quality, but the half or so that I have seen is phenomenal, and it's certainly telling that it's been renewed for a second season.) - Inside Job (18 episodes, cancelled): In a world where all conspiracy theories are real and are managed by one shadowy corporation, short-tempered genius Reagan Ridley seeks to earn a promotion while managing her abrasive coworkers, self-absorbed parents, and occasionally the fate of the world as we know it. (Absolute travesty that this one was cancelled. It's an amazing show. Created by Shion Takeuchi, another former Gravity Falls writer, though unlike Matt Braly and Dana Terrace she has expressed a wish for Inside Job to stand on its own and not be compared to her previous work, which it absolutely does. There's a chance it might get renewed with enough interest, but officially, we get what we have and no more.) - Steven Universe (160 episodes, plus twenty more in the epilogue series 'Steven Universe Future', both complete): The titular character is the youngest member of the Crystal Gems, a squad of magical gemstone-themed warriors who use their powers to combat giant monsters that threaten humanity. Steven must learn to use his own powers in order to join the other three in battles of ever greater stakes. (This one is especially fantastic for analysis. There are so many things that you can notice in the background and subtle details about how the characters act that will end up being important later if you can spot them. It's a long one in terms of number of episodes, but the episodes are only 11 minutes, like Amphibia or Over the Garden Wall, so you could definitely double up on them like you have been, leaving 90 episodes or a bit shorter than Attack on Titan.) - Centaurworld (18 episodes, complete): A war-horse (referred to only as Horse) from a gritty, war-torn world populated by humans is suddenly transported to the colorful, cheerful, sing-song world of Centaurworld, where everything is half-human half-something else, and must make her way home and reunite with her rider. (Honestly I hesitated to recommend this one because while it is a good show that I enjoyed overall, it's probably also the most *inconsistent* show I've ever seen. It has at least two moments off the top of my head that genuinely made me consider dropping the show (and I think you'll immediately recognize both when you see them), but in the end I did stick it out through the finale and didn't regret it one bit; it still earns a recommendation overall.) - Rick and Morty (71 episodes, ongoing): Alcoholic supergenius Rick Sanchez and his bumbling, nervous grandson Morty go on sci-fi adventures across the multiverse, occasionally accompanied by Morty's incompetent father Jerry, Rick's slightly less genius and slightly less alcoholic daughter Beth, or Morty's sarcastic older sister Summer. (Okay, let's address the elephant in the room: The series creator Justin Roiland is a real POS who made a career out of making himself a nuisance at best to everyone he interacted with. But he's been booted from the show and it shines just as well, if not better, without his presence in either the writer's room or the voice booth.) - The Amazing Digital Circus (4 episodes, ongoing): A group of humans are trapped in a virtual world run by an artificial intelligence programmed to entertain. The story focuses around the newest arrival, Pomni, and her journey to understand how things work in the titular Digital Circus as well as getting to know her fellow prisoners. Described by its creator as 'inspired by Harlan Ellison's 'I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream', but if AM was a wacky little guy'. (This is the only one on the list in the middle of an ongoing season, but it's indie animation, so it's not exactly on a weekly release schedule. There are apparently plans for a total of nine episodes, though there's no telling how long they'll take to be complete.)

2025-02-03 23:30:40 +0000 UTCRock Fact! Most of the show's events are foreshadowed in the initial opening. 1. A bird catches the attention of an annoyed-looking Beatrice (human form) and her dog (same dog that was mutated and attacked the boys in episode 1). This is implied to be the moment right before Beatrice throws the rock at the bluebird that cursed her and her family. The ending also reveals that the grist mill was her family home (which the Woodsman found abandoned before episode 1). 2. Enoch (the black cat) preparing for Pottsfield's harvest festival. 3. Jimmy wearing the gorilla suit, preforming in the circus. 4. The Toymaker's figurines of some of the characters in the tavern. 5. Endicott looking at Margueritte's portrait, and his first encounter with "the ghost". 6. Adelaide using the magic scissors. 7. Two children playing with a toy version of the ferry that carried the frogs. 8. Lorna sorting the bones of the demon's victims (Auntie Whispers asks about it in episode 7). 9. The Fisher Fish 10. Greg stealing the rock 11. The Woodsman and his daughter Anna (name revealed in the comics) doing chores on their homestead. Anna stares into the forest, foreshadowing her encounter with the Beast.

Zain Cassis
2025-02-03 18:02:01 +0000 UTCThe Woodsman represents The Grim Reaper(interesting to see it portrayed as a reluctant/unwilling figure), the Beast represents Death(always waiting, always just a shadow away), and the forest represents the Forest of the Dead(infinite and inescapable). There are some clues to the truth of things throughout the earlier episodes. The train's horn blowing in the intro, the half-moon in the sky, representing the in-betweenness of limbo, and a few more. The graveyard being named The Final Garden was just brilliantly poetic, and the names of characters we've met being on some of the gravestones was very sneaky. Brilliant show.

2025-02-03 16:40:09 +0000 UTCI think Wirt's self-confidence was just so far down towards rock bottom that he believed people loved Jason. He always assumed the worst about himself and assumed others saw him the same way. When, in fact, it was the opposite. Everyone knew and loved Wirt. Sara even kept trying to get him to come along with them. She clearly liked him, but he was too wrapped up in his own self-doubt to believe she could actually love someone like him.
