the question is a bit odd if not spoilery. How are they even supposed to compare the first ep to something they never watched? It's like saying "how do you compare my mom's burger to my dad's, my dad's got extra pickle" without having tasted them.

Nope nothing in the question itself is spoiling anything because it never gets mentioned and neither does the character. Like I said cut content, the 2011 version was supposed to feature this character here like in chapter 1 of the manga and episode 1 of the 1999 version but here it's left cut out. Meaning it's my best chance to ask this question here while it's still relevant because you never do get the full context why gon wants to become a hunter.

You're referring to episode 76 because 75 is the final episode of Greed Island. Even then episode 76 doesn't actually show what episode 1 of the 1999 version has instead they show that characters backstory, so no I'm not spoiling anything instead I'm referring to cut content. Learn the difference.

I think FMAB (2009) is actually older since this is the modern HxH (2011). You are probably thinking of the original anime (1999). With that being said, the manga is certainly older than any source material for their other shows.
