2024-10-18 23:32:26 +0000 UTCI think JJK tries to break the normal shonen boundaries a lot, and sometimes that comes with characters not feeling complete and dying before they reach their full potential. It's a common theme in the westerns genre of movie that seems to be being brought to anime, every character has their story, but every character is just as mortal as the rest, and watching something die is not often satisfying or complete. The flashback isn't so much meaningful to us, as much as it was for her, where she realises she had been holding herself back from enjoying things and the people around her. and restricting them to 'seats'. In her last moments she does sort of realise she had missed a big part of life, but unfortunately we never get to see that be realised.

Her origin story hadnt happened yet and then shes killed. Jujutsu sorcerers live cursed lives and can die at any moment. Was she underdeveloped and we needed more time? Yes absolutely, but this story makes a point to say that it doesnt matter if a character has had their arc, they can die at any moment because this is a story of suffering not of redemtion.

2024-10-18 16:24:22 +0000 UTCI do think Nobara’s backstory isn’t as interesting as her character so I struggled with the second half of this. Still a very great and devastating episode, but I feel that despite how cool her character is she really wasn’t given an ‘arc’ at all. She never changes much or goes through any development. Normally a backstory has a very clear message or meaning which provides specific context and emotional weight on a character’s motivations. But hers left me feeling like it went over my head. If anything that’s kudos to how great of a character she is without those things. Or perhaps I didn’t understand the message.

The veil keeps information from being passed between the inside and outside. The sorcerers in suits coordinate between the inside and outside. Nobara left the veil before Sukuna came out and walked back in after him to a destroyed Shibuya. Her goal was to go rescue Gojo.
