When I actually got to this moment, I was so locked in it actually made me feel nauseous. Aside from the absolutely killer buildup, the contrast between Dabi’s usual aloof persona and this manic, obsessive, sadistic joy was absolutely mind blowing.

The only thing Toya wanted was to train, any time he wanted with Endeavor was that, and Enji did not know what to do but ignore him, because he thought that's the only thing he himself had to offer as well. I think the “spoiler free” (but still kind of spoilery tbh) gist of my thoughts on their relationship is the conflict of emotionally neglecting/abandoning your child because you think it’s the best thing for them, only for it to backfire (not too unlike Nana leaving her son, who eventually grew to resent heroes). And more than anything, it’s upsetting to see Dabi, who compared to the other Todoroki siblings had the closest to a healthy relationship with Endeavor, wanting specifically to hurt and kill the other victim’s of Endeavor’s neglect and abuse

Personally, I believe Dabi is counting the villain thugs & MLA members we saw him kill because we don’t know of anybody else & before he joined the League it was specifically said he didn’t commit many big crimes.

Endeavor didn’t just tell Touya to stop training, he completely neglected & refused to spend ANY time with him because he couldn’t train. So of course the kid was desperate to keep trying because he wanted his dad’s attention back. Endeavor could’ve literally just spent time with him instead of abandoning him lol. He gave him a purpose as a ridiculously young child, then took it away & abandoned him. It’s neglect & abuse.

2024-09-08 17:32:30 +0000 UTCI don’t hate him and his dad obviously was a bad father but he’s definitely stretching the truth because endeavor was actually kind and motivating towards him and once he started hurting himself endeavor made (imo) a good decision to try and stop him and tell him it’s ok to not be a hero he can do something else with his life and toya chose to keep pushing himself and caused his own destruction. I feel the same when people try to omit his moms actions as just “well dad abused her” yes, that’s true and horrible on endeavors part, but taking it out on your children and specifically permanently scarring one of them when they were 5 years old is in no way ok.

2024-09-06 20:14:34 +0000 UTCOh my god, I just noticed it: That Handgesture Dabi is making in the beginning of the video, with the fingers layed together, is really really similar to the gesture Shoto was making after the Nomu/Endeavor fight to calm himself down. So either they both picked it up from Enji, but since we have never seen him do it, I think Shoto may have picked it up from Dabi (I might be off here, but I just had this brainwave so, there you go)

2024-09-06 17:45:15 +0000 UTCI think the Endeavor fanboy is a really interesting perspective. He does not want to believe _any_ of what Dabi said, but we, the Audience actually know it is true. But for someone like him, who admired Endeavor from afar, the man is eitehr black or white. As a general Fanboy of the hero Endeavor, it is hard to square that Endeavor is a really good hero who saves a lot of people and Enji Todoroki is (was?) a terrible human being who neglected and abused his wife and children. But both of these realities are true and it shows how fragile the image of 'Hero' is, that the ones bearing the Title pretty much cannot really have human flaws without their image crumbling. It's more or less what Stain was on about too. He was of the opinion that a true hero is supposed to give everything for the greater good, without thinking of themselves. This would, very naturally, disqualify most people. Most people are sometimes selfish and maybe try to survive something at the cost of someone else. They make mistakes and choices they regret. And what Stain admires in people like Allmight and Deku is actually shown as a flaw, in that, both of them are willing to just destroy themselves with no regard for everyone else - which mentally hurts everyone around them. To be a 'hero' in Stains eyes and I think in the general Public view would mean to stop being human. And that is not a longterm sustainable solution

He and Toya seemed to have a rather close relationship as the two older boys, Dabi even said "I would cling to Natsu crying" meaning they supported each other through the really bad times. So for him to now see the brother he thought he lost like this... And Dabi apparently no longer caring about him, since he led the Criminal to their house that nearly killed Natsuo, all in an attempt to hurt Endeavor.

2024-09-06 03:05:11 +0000 UTCNo, I don't think so. A deus ex machina is more like something completely unimaginable with absolutely NO setup happening to keep the heroes going. We already know Hawks is a double agent at this point. So, at this point in the story, we can logically assume Best Jeanist isn't dead and that his death was faked somehow. But the scene at the beginning of this episode kind of ruins Jeanist's surprise entrance. The viewer begins expecting him to show up at some point during the episode to save the day, especially after Dabi/ Toya says Hawks killed Best Jeanist. Moving it to the beginning of the next episode as a flashback to explain how Jeanist got there keeps the surprise intact. And it's something MHA has done before, too, like when Deku saved Iida from Stain. We saw Deku smash Stain, then they cut to commercial. When they came back from commercial, they flashed back a few minutes earlier and showed how Deku found Iida.

Some people didn't even suspect it but others were constantly putting the pieces together during the manga to know that it had to be him. Referring to how Endeavor pinned their hopes on both of them. Natsuo and Fuyumi were not even counted as possible candidates so they did not suffer from the same situation.
