To be fair, their has been people who have gotten shot or stabbed in the head and in some cases self inflicted that were able to call 911 after or even take themselves to the hospital and survive. In real life lol

Both of them have died so many times over so they were the only ones that could understand and relate on a level no one else would be able to. The immortal can be killed and resurrected and Kate remembers every time her duplicates die. It understandable Immortal would feel immensely worse about losing her over others.

It was a completely random attack and they never caught the perpetrator. His name was Jerry and like 1/4th of his head was blown off. He lived for several years after that. Not as a vegetable, either. You can actually see an interview of him on the YT channel Soft White Underbelly (just search for Jerry). If it weren’t for the fact that a large portion of his face was missing you’d think he was just a little eccentric at worst. He passed away a few years ago, but many who met him described him as having a heart of gold, and after watching the interview I’m inclined to agree.

2024-08-06 03:27:34 +0000 UTCI just watched a police body cam video of someone who was shot in the head and then walked 2 miles to his friend's house to call the police. The man had no serious permanent injuries, from what I recall. It's not impossible that Rex as just a human could survive that.

Debbie doesn't really have experience raising a superpowered kid with mixed heritage bc Mark has only had powers for like a year and found out he was an alien even more recently than that so he has been a "normal" human the vast majority of his life. They have no idea when or if the kid's getting powers and if he flips out while Mark's away, she can't do anything to stop it.

Kate states to Rex earlier this season that immortal and her both understand what it’s like to die and continue on. They both experience it in slightly different ways but similar enough. I think that along with the off screen relationship that immortal and her likely had makes it impact him so much more than his previous partners.

He needs someone who she'll accept and that is this. Best decision overall I think. I also think Cecil is smart enough to know that raising someone like homelander is just a problem so making sure the people raising are actually good at making stable people is good
