HSA-62: Westelton
Added 2023-03-27 22:57:21 +0000 UTCDarren and Liv are forced to make a detour on their cross country move. They wind up in Westelton, a town where everything seems a little too perfect and a little too sexy. From the mechanic to the locals in the diner, everyone looks like a walking fetish. Everyone except the Mayor who isn't all that happy to see new arrivals.
Hi all. This was a "get back on the horse" short that went longer than intended. The more interesting things are probably alluded to than the stuff shown, but that's a product of brain scramble.
Some over-complicated name trivia: this concept is pulled from an episode of The Twilight Zone called "It's a Good Day" wherein a town is isolated and tormented by a monster in the body of a young boy. Except, I conflated that episode with another episode called "A Stop at Willoughby" that has an entirely different plot about an idyllic town. So, I went looking for a name based on the wrong episode and found that Willoughby, Ohio was named in honor of Westel Willoughby Jr. and hence the story's town was Westelton. Which then drove me nuts every time I write it because it reminds me of the Wesselton/Weaseltown joke from Frozen.
I'm all good now, but it was a hellish week. I have good old fashioned adhd (but probably a norepinephrine processing disorder) that's treated with amphetamines. Back when I was working out the cocktail of drugs that keep me functional, doctors would say that if the drug worked it would be like a light clicking on in my head. Turns out that wasn't true, but the opposite was. The drugs not working is like lights slowly being turned off along a creepy hallway, somewhat literally, my vision actually dims around the edges periodically when I go too long without the medication. At the same time, the drugs getting back to work is like a kid running up and down the hall flicking all the lights at once and screaming until he tires out.
But yeah, we're back on track now. Happy reading!

I really like the "HSA is scary but not evil" vibe in this one.
