Allow me to slip into something more horrifying *peels face back*

This is partly true. Alex Hirsch has said that they were *trying* to write a Wendy-centric A-plot episode, but they couldn't "crack" it -- that is, they couldn't get it to work as a whole episode. However, that was for "The Last Mabelcorn", not for this episode, exactly. He said that they were trying and trying, and at the very last minute, he had to stay up all night and write the entire "The Last Mabelcorn" episode himself. But that might have had a knock-on effect, considering that was the ep before this one. I think what we have to keep in mind is that they wrote these episodes under a lot of time constraints. They couldn't always take their time and write a lot of drafts until they got it right. There was a schedule and a production pipeline that they couldn't really let slip. So that's why, when they couldn't get an episode idea to work completely, they would have to move on and find something that WOULD work, so that they didn't blow the schedule. It really is a shame that we didn't get an episode that featured Wendy in a main plot, though. Alex said he had two ideas they were trying to get to work. One was a plot where Wendy would get weather powers. And one was going to be about Stan teaching Wendy to be a thief and pull off a diamond heist or something. Either of those would have been great.

Where are yall watching the jjk movie

I think the main reason people don't like this episode (myself included) is because of where it's placed. If this had been before Not What He Seems I think it would've been regarded as a perfectly fine episode, but because we've been on a rollercoaster of plot for the last several episodes and are about to go into one of the best finales in animation, the filler feels really out of place.

someone else have to confirm this, because i don' know if this is correct. This episode "replaced" a Wendy centered episode (like the Soos ones that we've seen) I don't know how / what they'd do, but I could actually see them do that whole wendy photos - dipper platonic relationship with wendy's perspective.

I had no idea this episode was hated. I rlly liked it

It's a popular theory that this episode was written with the intention of being aired in the first half of the season, but it was moved to the second half so they could make 'Not What He Seems'/'Tale of Two Stans' a mid-season finale. This would explain, among other things, why the plot is about them leaving the shack when last episode was all about them making the shack a safe place from Bill, why Ford is not mentioned at all, and why the plot is about Dipper's Wendy crush which seemed well and resolved early on.

This episodes cryptograms read: "SOOS, LIKE A NOBLE GOLDEN RETRIEVER, EVENTUALLY FOUND HIS WAY HOMEWARD, AND BEFRIENDED A TALKING BULLDOG AND SASSY CAT ALONG THE WAY" and "CARLA MCCORKLE RETURNED ALL HIS FLOWERS MARILYN DIVORCED HIM AFTER ONLY SIX HOURS BEATRICE SLAPPED HIM FOR BEING A CAD OLD GOLDIE'S THE BEST GIRLFRIEND STAN EVER HAD" The first one is an obvious reference to the movie Homeward Bound, by the way.

definitely not a bad episode, i think its placement in the season is what is annoying to most fans! chronologically it takes place earlier & should’ve aired prior to all the action of the back-half of the season. the funniest part to me is the previous episode ends with ford putting the protection on the shack so they’ll be safe from bill inside and then they immediately go on a roadtrip 😂

McKenna DeFranco

im on it

Super important from this point on.

Reaper Scythe

yeah, if it were shortly after the wendy "breakup" it would be much better

Fusssel

It's not a bad episode, it's just a filler, and I believe this episode takes place early in the 2nd season, so soon after the Bunker episode and before Ford

Zo Hunter

Alright everyone, we have to make absolutely sure Kenny never skips the intro again

Reedemption

Most people (including myself) dislike this episode because it feels so filler and adds literally nothing to the main story, and it is right before some big stuff. The episode on its own is fine, but it is super out of place.

Dipper having crazy rizz felt so odd to me
