Answer, 20 years ago the accepted theory about the Bermuda Triangle became methane gas bubbles naturally erupting from the ocean floor solved the mystery. Gas bubbles can easily sink ships of any size via loss of buoyancy and the methane is flammable or messes with the gauges when it comes into contact with plane engines. Lelouch copied how the Bermuda Triangle sank ships and used it to sink Suzaku's armada.
