2023-07-13 07:06:50 +0000 UTCEh, don't think anime has undergone a giant shift at all in terms of writing style and substance (the themes are pretty similar). It has definitely shifted in terms of technical refinement and visual ambition but the storytelling style is still pretty similar. Still a lot more tell not show, a lot of direct exposition and presenting themes so directly in general. Shonen animes (at least the most popular ones) still uses the same tropes and execution style. DS has a lot that's reminiscent of say, Naruto, Reborn!, and MHA (down the style of protagonist struggling during a fight, some flashes of family/love that they need to protect, then a heroic second wind usually with a power up, new form etc.). That being said, I do think the further they go down the series, the less parallels you can draw between Lelouch and Light as individual characters as they are ultimately pretty different. More so than say, Tanjiro vs Deku or Naruto vs Luffy.

The way this show emphasizes tactics and cool tech in the fight scenes really is my favorite Also, I think it's important to remember that this came out 5-10 years before the other animes you guys have been watching (except death note) and anime has undergone a complete generation shift in terms of themes, plots, metaphor, etc. so drawing parallels between CG and other animes like AOT, DS or MHA might not be as fruitful.

She's not even referring to Nina. She's referring to herself. Milly ASHFORD of Ashford Academy. SHE'S the principal's granddaughter. She's telling Nina that at one point, her family(the Ashford family) was important enough to be granted audience with the royal family on request. Nina is asking her to use that influence to let her meet Princess Euphemia. Milly's replying and pointing out that the Ashfords don't have that standing anymore, and her social status can be summed up as "a principal's granddaughter."
