In Episode 1 when Lelouch plays the nobleman it is an actual real life chess game. If you pause the screen and re-create the scenario on the board you can be in Lelouch's place and take the challenge of are you good enough of a chess player to win down from that situation. This applies only for the 1st game, not future chess games. An example of very minute details the show inserts for you to notice only after multiple viewings.
