January Update: Getting back into things!

Dear Patreons,

I'm going to keep this month's update short, since I'm also working on the 2023 highlights post.

EPISODE PILOT:

We managed to finish the pilot for the broadcaster on time! It was a real challenge, as the voice recording had to be postponed for the last week before Christmas. And then, due to unfortunate circumstances, Zale's voice had to be recorded just the day before the hand-in deadline, which left me with some very intense editing days. After that I was pretty poofed, and did my best to rest over Christmas and New Year... and made a few extra additions and fix-ups to the animatic, since I was still able to update the file in the shared folder link.

But it's done now! First reactions have been super nice, but now it will be very interesting to see what the final verdict is. Best case scenario is that it gets picked up and we continue the year raising the remaining funding for the project. Worst case - well, we'll have to rethink our strategy then. I probably won't be able to give you the full details of the outcome, but you'll know whether it's positive or negative at least.

ROUGH ANIM:

I've still got a few loose ends to tie up, but now that the animatic is done I won't have to split my time between full-time animation supervising and then Tales of Zale directing. So just to get into the swing of things and warm up, I thought it'd be nice to animate some of the updated character designs. Here up top is the first quick rough of Evelyn. It's nice to animate traditionally again! But I also feel a bit rusty, so I'm glad I can put some time towards it again.

EMIL FRA LØNNEBERG:

Speaking of traditional animation, that was actually a big part of my year in 2023 until the TV-series production began. I can say that now, because the main producer, Qvisten, put out a trailer for the short during December. Still can't show actual work from it, but I can share some screen grabs from the trailer:
