We're Going 4K 60FPS HDR PS5 OMGWTFBBQ Everyone
Added 2020-10-25 08:43:54 +0000 UTCHey Patrons, a channel update that many of you may have noticed is that the videos are slowly moving over to 4K, 60FPS (where applicable). The graphics evolution video pretty much needed that, but LTPS also had 4K, 60 where possible. And I've updated all the news story graphics as well. Those were VERY old and low res. (I'm also dreading the fact that from here on out, I cannot reuse story images I already made. That's 8 years of assets gone).
But really, we're going to be PS5 ready. Once the console drops all PS5 captures will be of the highest quality, and I can't wait to see something like another trophy challenge displayed in beautiful 4K. Alongside just the new capture hardware, I've been making some heavy investments to get the channel ready for handling this footage. Working with 4K is not easy or cheap, so thank you all for your continued support here.
HDR I'm hoping we can do, but good lord working with it is an absolute nightmare.
Or maybe it's better to say: learning it is a nightmare. After an entire day of testing and evaluating, HDR is certainly do-able but the files are absolutely massive for mere minutes of footage. On a 30 minute video, we're probably well past YouTube's 128GB upload limit. But between tone-mapping, proper HDR metadata, file sizes, HDCP 2.2, PSVR passthrough, and a few other headaches, HDR isn't a guarantee.
Either way, I'm excited to see the visual quality jump soon. Maybe at some point I'll pay someone to have decent animation screens and call-to-action overlays. But I don't want too much of the amateur charm to disappear. Yeah, that's what we'll call it. Amateur charm, it works, I swear!

You really should've!! I was watching MKBHD's unboxing and almost felt bad at how neglectfully he was doing it (basically just ripping the box open at certain points).

What I meant is that I really like the structure and delivery of content from your current videos, and hope worrying about higher quality video / editing does not hamper that. if you have to pick between "better quality video" and "better quality content", pls pick content haha

2020-10-26 00:33:53 +0000 UTCA lot of you guys are going to hate me but I think I may cancel my pre-order. For me it’s going to be around £800 for the PS5, controller, headset and 2 games. To be brutally honest there’s no game coming out that I want. I’m very unsure what to do. Save my money and buy early next year or have a console that I won’t really use. I’m coming from Xbox so will lose all my games etc.

Most of the time I'm hearing audio only without the video. Hopefully you are able to keep up with the quality of content with this added HDR headache haha :)

As much as the HDR would be amazing for your content, if it's that much more of a pain for you to work with, the jump from 1080p to 4k is already a big leap for the channel. I'm sure they'll be particular videos where HDR will be nice to have every now and then, but exciting stuff nonetheless!
