Mechanics Poll: Split Ice and Water Damage in 5e MH?

So the suggestion has come up a couple times from one of my long time patrons and while I am updating the formatting on the entire MHMM the thought keeps popping into my head. As most of you may have noticed, Necrotic damage has been used as dragon damage from the MH video games. In that same vein, water and ice from the MH video games are both cold damage and aren't separated in any way.
Acid is a fairly underutilized damage type in 5e Monster Hunter and cold is a lot more common since it takes from both ice and water attacks. Obviously acid is not an exact comparison to water damage, but it is the closest thing in regular 5e damage types, and I've already done it once with dragon to necrotic, so I feel like this is a fair suggestion, but I want to know how you all feel.

It is an option, but I wanted to emulate the damage type from the video games in this case. Emulating the game more than emulating the damage water would do in real life (bludgeoning, piercing, slashing, and wet).
