TUTORIAL #25 - A ROUGH NIMDA MIXDOWN GUIDE
Added 2023-07-26 16:09:17 +0000 UTCthe text document I created says:
BE SURE YOU'RE USING GOOD DRUMS. BAD DRUMS WILL MAKE ANY MIX SOUND AWFUL.
Basses: around +6db (sometimes louder) (layers etc will sometimes be quieter, I will level these by ear).
Sub: around 0db.
Kick and snare: as loud as I can get them before they distort, loud enough to be nice and impactful through the mix.
Cymbals: usually around 0db.
Drop background elements: I do these by ear, but typically they never go over -1db.
Drop vocals: around 0db, but it can massively vary depending on whether they're being used in the intro, as a pre drop or as fills.
- ALL basses are highpassed at about 150-200hz, and lowpassed at 15khz.
- Almost all sounds in the DROP (apart from drums and sub) will also be highpassed at 150-200hz.
- I have SPAN on my master and regularly check that to see if there are no lacking or overbearing frequencies, I also use SPAN to reference other tracks.
Comments
At what point in your production do you put a soft clipper on your master? Is that by default in a new project?
