Maybe I'm unobservant and it's been there a while but congrats on that rock on your finger. Happy Birthday to your son from me as well

2025-03-28 22:54:16 +0000 UTCIn ‘God Fearing Child’ Gabrielle delivers THEIR baby. She does not leave Xena in her labour despite the whole of Olympia shaking and crumbling down. She has no idea what’s going to happen when their baby is born. There’s no chance that she can survive. She doesn’t care. She helps bring their baby into the world. She’s steadfast. She’ll be there no matter what. That’s what you call love and a domestic partnership. “But I can tell you this, Xena… you’re the only constant in my life, and unless you know something I don’t, I’m not going anywhere. So I’m going to say the most selfish thing I’ve ever said to you: that baby’s my baby too, and I deserve a chance to fight for it as much as you.” - Gabrielle, ‘Them Bones, Them Bones’ (Original script dialogue.) They knew what they were doing with this scene. Especially the way Xena AND Gabrielle’s heads turn back to the baby at exactly the same time as if they were both proud of making that little bundle of joy between their arms. Also notice how Gabrielle only steps away after a glance towards Xena and Eve, clearly assessing that they both need to be alone while she responds to Hercules’ request. As if to say “You stay here, I’ll take care of business.” Dialogue is rarely ever needed between these two because the body language communicates so much in small intimate scenes like this. Both the mark of great acting and great chemistry between the actresses. I’ve always said that it’s the quiet moments that truly reveal the depth of the loving relationship between Xena and Gabrielle. Whether you see it in a romantic way or not, you cannot deny that it is not filled with unconditional love. Especially where Gabrielle is concerned.

Talk about an incredible woman. Also love 'pathetic' Ares when he has to come to terms with real genuine human emotions. Solid episode!

2025-03-24 03:48:19 +0000 UTCI will probably always regard this episode as the best of season five. Obviously, the appearance of Hercules has a lot to do with that. It was also entirely appropriate to do a BIG episode like this on Xena that carries things over from HTLJ. To see Zeus (version 4.0, Charles Keating) again was great, and I love Meg Foster as Hera. (I love Meg Foster as most anything, but especially as the queen of the gods.) I like the little Iolaus hydra plush and the Herc-Zeus fight which echoes Hercules and The Circle of Fire. I like Xena's moment of birth. I like a whole lot of this. I even like it enough to push aside the problems, some of which can't be helped (like the recasting of Hades and Solon) and some of which could (what the heck is this crap about Zeus destroying Hera by spinning her around in a make-out tornado?!) The final Hercules and Zeus moments are terrific, ("FATHER!") and Xena's delivering Eve ("Please be quiet") is excellent. This should PROBABLY have been a two-parter, but what can you do? ... I wasn't aware that this was your son's birthday, but, man, is that some timing. Happy birthday to the little guy.
