UNEDITED: Xena Warrior Princess 5x01 Reaction

Also, It often gets overlooked because Xena was in her demon form when she said it, but this quote from Xena so profound. Xena: "Gabrielle, the love that we have, it's stronger than Heaven or Hell. It transcends Good or Evil. It's a end in itself. Our souls are destined to be together."

Such a great season premiere. I love how they actually showed us what happened to Xena & Gabrielle when they dies and not just them being resurrected.

I believe the choice to make was between becoming an archangel or a guardian angel. Callisto’s choice was chosen for her so her entire history was rewritten. But Xena and Gabrielle both choose to walk through the fire. It’s just Gabrielle’s trial was different. More metaphorical than Xena’s trial as her trial was to forgive Callisto. When Gabrielle became an Archangel. Not an angel. ARCHANGEL. Proving that she is meant to fight to protect and defend. Proving it is her Way. It was her Way all along. Not the Way of Love. Not the Way of the Warrior. The Way of Friendship. The Way of the Protector and Defender. As defined by WHOOSH. That’s how I interpret it anyway. I could be wrong. Probably am. Also I think it’s because they wanted to distinguish this way from ‘The Way of Love’ so they couldn’t call it the same thing. Even though it technically is - and better. What it really amounts to is The Way of the Protector and Defender. It just happened to be that Xena was always the person Gabrielle expressed her Way for. The thing is that she was always on this path. She just never knew it. Never recognized it for what it was. How to express true love without calling it true love. A masterclass by the Xena writers.

It’s so subtle but if you watch that ending scene where Joxer walked up to Gabrielle and caressed her face in happiness and affection, not a moment later Gabrielle realizes that Xena is right next to her and her face turns towards her and her and Xena lock eyes. At that moment they pan back to Joxer whose eyes also dart to Xena for a moment and then back to Gabrielle - and he understands in that moment she will never be his because she already has her one true love. Xena. It’s such a small and subtle moment but it’s substantial. He finally realized. Joxer’s such a poor sap throughout all of Xena. I mean how could he ever compete with a formidable warrior for a woman’s heart? Especially a woman like Gabrielle?

Michael, the archangel, was introduced on Hercules; he was DRASTICALLY de-powered with no explanation for this transition on Xena. ... I, too, like that Callisto finds a better fate than oblivion or burning in Hell for eternity. ... Ted Raimi as Joxer may have had the best performance in the episode with his soft-spoken determination to take Gabby and Xena's bodies to Greece. ... Demon Xena's rally of the damned may have been inspired by Paradise Lost. ... It really isn't mainstream Christian theology that dead humans become angels, but it's usually accepted in It's A Wonderful Life, so, whatever.

Michael's voice cracks me up. He sounds like Elvis. Angel Callisto freaks me out, but I guess that's preferable to the demon version. I felt so bad for Xena when she begged Gabrielle not to leave her in Hell alone. This episode is something isn't it? An ultimate battle between good and evil. I thought they did pretty good even if they didn't have the budget that shows these days do. Poor Joker. That's all.

I like that idea too ha! 😆 "these two are way too much trouble together, let's get them back to earth"

So the fifth season, they were in transition a little cause alot of the writers were going to do Lord of The Rings around this time, also there were things that came up in the actresses lives that affected what they could do. So 5th season is kinda you either like or your don't. There's a lot of changes that were enjoyed, lol but....yeah. Honestly though I think there are concepts you will love lol. Fallen Angel, easily described as "Heaven don't want me, and Hell's afraid I'm gonna take over" lmao. I think Michael's smile at Calisto was relief..."thank you, those two women would of caused me so much grief, you got them outta here" lmao.

Such an amazing episode, great way to conclude the Endgame/Ides trilogy.. the make up is incredible, everyone gets to be an angel and a demon, and I love how Lucy is able to emote such tenderness under all that demon make up, fantastic 😆 and yes so nice for Callisto to have a happy ending, just amazing
