When Chosen One Reactions got to the end of Season Four, she watched this episode BEFORE 20 and 21, as several of her viewers (including me) instructed. I think Liam Catterson did the same. But I guess this clip show season finale worked out for you, though I do think it's a little anticlimactic.

2025-01-30 13:53:58 +0000 UTCI know she’s a sweetheart. She’s just as enamoured with Lucy as she is Ted and I certainly don’t think there’s anything going on there - so you’re right. And I know. She’s very serious about her acting choices in terms of how it pertains to her character.

2025-01-25 06:23:02 +0000 UTCIt’s not the finale. Ides is. This is more of a coda to it.

2025-01-25 06:20:11 +0000 UTCI never mind this episode, I just wish it wasn't the finale. The showrunners did everything they could (that would get by censors in the 90s) to show that gabrielle and xena were a couple. Also always fun to see Ted, Lucy, and Renee step into different characters.

2025-01-25 00:42:06 +0000 UTCThat's just Renee's personality. She is enamored and very complimentary of everyone and was good friends with everyone on set. I wouldn't read much into it. There are interviews where Lucy is flabbergasted that Renee still keeps in contact with a random person on set decades later lol. She's just a sweetheart. She also takes her characters plot decisions way more seriously than Lucy who is much more in the moment/lets wing it type lol. So if Renee chooses to do something or not to do something...it's definitely likely because she thinks it's in service of her character

2025-01-24 23:16:26 +0000 UTCHmm, I do agree with you about the kiss, but Renee acts so enamored with Ted Raime, the actor who plays Joker, in interviews that I kind of feel like it's crush fulfillment, so I'm like 'if she likes it, I love it. Ha Also, I think this episode is kind of perfect to come after the last episode because it's basically saying that no matter what happens to Xena and Gabrielle in that life, they'll always be able to come together again in future lives.

2025-01-24 23:10:09 +0000 UTCIt’s the sentiment that counts, Kassidy. The creators wanted them to be an official couple. But this was the only way they could do it and get passed the 90’s censors. While one of them was in the body of a man. It sucks, I know. But this was all they were allowed to do or they would have been cancelled. Advertisers would have pulled out. You watched that ‘Fins, Femmes & Gems’ episode. Originally the script was Gabrielle would be obsessed with sexual positions and the obvious person to explore them with would be Xena. The network chopped down on that 48 hours before production started. So they did try to get more sexual intimacy between them. They just were prevented from doing so every time. But there’s much more to Xena and Gabrielle than just making out that even canon WLW ships today don’t have between them. So I think it’s a sacrifice worth it for everything else you get between a WLW couple. Maybe do a rewatch for yourself after you’ve finished the whole show because once you are aware that Xena and Gabrielle are soulmates and that their karmas are intertwined for eternity (past, present and future), a lot of the episodes that you get before learning that information make much more sense. Like it’s not even funny how much more significant and profound the earlier episodes become once you know they’re soulmates. For example the episode ‘Prometheus’ and the soulmate story Gabrielle tells Iolas as he is dying. It’s supposed to be a Xena/Hercules and Gabrielle/Iolas double love story of sorts where at the end of the episode they both feel like they’ve met their soulmate in each other. But like… you go back and watch that episode after you’ve watched the show and especially the episode ‘Between The Lines’ and it’s just like 😲 It makes so much more sense and it’s much deeper than it initially comes across without all that insight. And it’s not just that… like there’s so many episodes… The censorship isn’t that bad when you know that the creators/cast/crew agree with you and want them to be an official couple too. They find other clever ways besides “man-inserts” to represent their romantic relationship.

2025-01-24 23:05:27 +0000 UTCIt was Renee’s decision.

2025-01-24 22:06:39 +0000 UTCI don’t think she will hate that episode to be honest given she loves Joxer so much.

2025-01-24 22:05:24 +0000 UTCCongrats for making it this far! Season 5 is a real watershed but it´s actually my favorite. There is one episode you will absolutely freakin hate but it can be forgiven. In my humble opinion

2025-01-24 21:37:54 +0000 UTCI like how reincarnated modern day Xena is a litigious surgeon who is protective of his partner and is supportive of her even though he doesn't believe in the same stuff, and modern Gabrielle of course is a new agey mystic charlatan.. love those characterizations 😆 spot on

2025-01-24 21:25:26 +0000 UTCLol writers gave us that were starved for lesbian content in the 90s what they could lol. I'm glad you appreciated this episode. Season 5 is kinda hit and miss, but I still it was a good season. I think this show was one of the driving forces for getting LGBT on tv as open as it is now
