Joxer is hilariously clueless a lot of the times, but I'm glad he shows up frequently. I'd rather a reoccurring companion be Joxer then some macho dude or a Hercules ripoff. Gotta love 'im.

2024-06-14 23:08:48 +0000 UTCOh, that's right! The costumes alone are gorgeous. I think the beautiful design, the scenery, even other things, sometimes--like the camera work still hold strong. I dunno, but to me it feels a lot of talent went into these shows.

2024-06-14 22:46:36 +0000 UTCOh myyyyyyyyy. Whew! 😳 Subtext, huh?... Haha! Of course Xena and Gabrielle were bacchae at the time, but the bite near the end was still a very, erhm...sensual bite. I think even *I* blushed a little. I love this Halloween episode! What a fun romp. Good to see Joxer again, the goofy dork. Sigh... What will we do with him? It's got a little bit of creepy; a little bit of, no, a LOT of gay; a little bit of night life at the club? Sounds like a fun Halloween night to me.

2024-06-14 22:21:23 +0000 UTCYes. In fact, Ngila Dickson, who was the costumer for Herc and Xena, went on to win an Oscar for Lord of the Rings. Her work for these shows was just as impressive as far less of a budget.

2024-06-14 22:12:08 +0000 UTCOh I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought so! Sure, I don't know how much of a budget they were working with or anything, but I always thought these shows looked cool as hell. Sure, they relied on a lot of practical effects, too, but I like that. I mean we're talking 90's-2000's television here. And no one can say this show didn't have talent behind the camera, too. Didn't several people also move on to Lord of the Rings in various production and design roles?

2024-06-14 15:18:24 +0000 UTCI really agree. These were, really, the best looking shows on television. I feel like some people just call them "cheap" or whatever because they think it's what they're supposed to say, as if you have to dump on them even when you're watching them.
Koz
2024-06-14 11:42:07 +0000 UTCYes the crew were very talented and passionate and you can tell, it annoys me so much when people dismiss or refer to these shows as "cheap"

2024-06-14 11:12:09 +0000 UTC“Stake her?” 👎 “Let her bite me and we take out Bacchus together?” 👍 That’s how Xena saves the day. In the gayest way possible.

2024-06-14 06:17:44 +0000 UTCOf course she’d be dancing at the club in between two women. Gaybrielle.

2024-06-14 06:14:32 +0000 UTC“What an idiot.” You’re now having the Joxer experience. Every fan goes through this. You’ll get used to him. “You almost died trying to save me and I really want to do something to thank you.” I’d really like to know what Gabrielle was implying here. This is basically Xena doing Buffy before Buffy even did it. It’s a classic Xena episode.

2024-06-14 06:13:36 +0000 UTCSuch a wacky, fun, and gay episode. Gabrielle seemed mighty enraptured by those bachai women. Maybe opening her eyes? Lol my favorite part of the episode (excluding the obvious) was the guy dancing at the club with orpheus' head on a stick.

2024-06-14 04:43:52 +0000 UTCI've heard that before, and it's quite possible. He certainly looks different, though, and not simply a copy of Darkness. The Hercules episode that was paired with this one also had one of the best looking mummies in TV or film, so it was a good week for the makeup crew.

2024-06-14 03:14:34 +0000 UTCBacchus design was lifted/inspired by the Tim Curry character from the movie Legend, and they did a great job replicating it

2024-06-14 03:06:11 +0000 UTCWell, this was their Halloween episode this season, turning the classical concept of Bacchae (Maenads) and making them very, very, very much like vampires. Obviously there's a lot of subtext-y material here. But this is a really fun installment, regardless. Anthony Ray Parker is great as Bacchus (who looks like some version of the devil) and I really like the bits with disembodied Orpheus, the funky jam at the party, and, yeah, Gabby turning Xena. (You notice Xena gets double fangs?) The intriguing question is how did Joxer get involved in all this? Somehow he meets Orpheus and then uses his rather flimsy connection with Xena and Gabrielle to let them know what the situation is. Hmm. ... I'd also like to say that dryads are cool.

2024-06-14 02:59:53 +0000 UTCYeeess the Halloween episode, also known as "Gabrielle goes to the gay bar"
