[Febuary] Week 1 : Best Souls 2 keeps on giving
Added 2024-02-09 10:08:32 +0000 UTCI've been dedicating these past few weeks on research. Got a lot of new ideas and potentially more if the bounties pay off. Here are a few examples for DS2 SotFS.
[Buffer Overflow]
By abusing the steam overlay, players can input a longer name during character creation. This much has already been known. But did you know that it can actually overwrite game-critical information like NG+ cycles?
There are currently safety checks for BoF so currently trying to overwrite any critical information will cause an immediate crash, but we'll see how it goes.
[Save file corruption]
More interestingly, if you enter a boss, quit out, and during the fade replace the save file, the save will get corrupted. This can have wild effects such as bosses simply disappearing, NPCs dying/aggroing, and even allows you to re-make your character.
[Skirtless Parrywalk]
This one is self explanatory. Parrywalks without the skirt. It's incredibly tricky to pull off and works only on some enemies on 60fps.
Besides these findings I've also put up bounties for video ideas and a mod where touching grass in elden ring kills you.
