Carving, Shaping, Cracking and Making!
Added 2020-10-24 21:52:40 +0000 UTCToday we’re shaping the gateway! We’re using the same techniques that you saw on the Tombstones we made but at a much larger scale.
Surform tools to break the edges and remove the bulk of the material, files and rasps to add detail and break off big chunks here and there, utility knife to cut cracks, and finally we’ll texture it with the heat gun.
When we do these types of things we try to imagine what would have caused the wear and tear. Why a crack here? Why is that particular corner broken?
In this case, we imagined a mad wizard summoned a demon through this portal and they had an epic battle on its arrival! The wizard tried to destroy the gateway by casting meteors down upon it, breaking off huge chunks of the top. As they battled, the stone shattered and split, but ultimately the magical runes protected the structure. 5,000 years later, the ancient battle is just legend but the gateway still stands.
Or, you know, something like that! It helps visualize where the stuff should go. 😄
