My top 10 addons:

Got asked on discord what were my top 10 addons and why, so i thinki would copy paste my reply here. you might wanna look into some of those, they're pretty cool and i love them <3

1.- Animation Layers (30$ - blendermarket): absolutely must have and idk why they have not implemented such a system natively in blender already. it's like photoshop layers. you can animate your scene and then add a "breathing" layer or just animate some variations to the pose, like character looking arround. or do like me and sepparate things in individual layers, like "hair" or "face expressions" etc. super super useful. can't live without it

2.- Mustard's simplify (0$ - github): a true blessing that should be integrated directly in blender's native simplify settings. great for optimising your viewport to get the best performance possible. a must have for animators so you really know how your animation looks.

3.-Bone Dynamics pro (15$ - blendermarket) : great to bake physics on things with bones, like hair, skirts, can be used for chains, ropes, anything that wiggles. can use it on any bone really, like breast onnes if you don't wanna rely on deform cages. must have too

4.- Auto Rig Pro (40$ blendermarket): great to rig models and stuff. but i mostly love it because it has a great tool to retarget any animation you want into your desired model. could use motion capture data, or a fortnite emote, doesn't matter. must have if you plan on doing some motion capture regardless if it's with a suit or some AI video to mocap thingie.

5.- Diffeomorphic and MHX (0$ on the diffeo's website): addon used to port models from daz. a bit of a bitch to get working and get used to work with, but incredibly useful.

6.- Sketchfab importer (0$ - github): lets you import directly into blender any free model from sketchfab, and comes with built materials and everything. just one click and you're done.

7.- Extreme PBR(29-89$ - blendermarket) : just your ordinary material library. super convinient to use to replace or add materials in your enviroments or in props you made without having to go search for the textures online for every material you need

8.- Photographer 5 (24$ - gumroad): makes cameras and lights more "real life accurate" confrolling the camera settings in rela life units like fstops, milimiters, light temperature controlled in kelvin and watts... has a dolly zoom effect you can even animate, multiple compositor effects like chromatic aberrations, bloom, warmth and tone, auto exposure... makes making renders much easier and fun all in one pannel, absolutely love it.

9.- Final LUT (12$ - blendermarket): Discovered it yesterday. adds LUTs (Look Up Tables) to your scene to automatically color grade them. consider it like a gallery of instagram filters.

10.- Geoscatter (99$ - blendermarket) and botaniq (129$ - blendermarket): huge asset library of high quality plants, with multiple biomes to choose from. great to populate your scenes in outdoor scenarios.

Honorable mention: VR inspector (0$ comes with blender): great to view your scenes and models in realtime in VR. not only for entertainment, but it's also great to get a more natural representation of your poses and stuff. might look good in screen but in VR limbs might look broken or face expressions unnatural. plus bonus points for bringing the digital baddies one step closer to reality.

Comments

I'm just getting into Blender, and I had a hell of a time learning how to manipulate a curve (for a belt/chain/rope) in object mode. Extending it further with bones and pose mode sounds even better.

Thank you very much for this!

Many thanks for these tips!

Ohhh!! Bone Dynamics. Did you ever do a tutorial on that? ^o^ Would love to know how that works- and whether one could make use for still renders with it! O,O ♥

Sreliata

I have most of these addons, never tried that vr thing tho! Does it work well?
