Mastigaunt

Mastigaunts are crescent-shaped advanced nanomachines that hover above the ground thanks to their long, grounding tail filaments. If the tail breaks contract with the ground, they drop like a stone.
Mastigaunts live in the world's boreal forests and are the real reason why these areas are not inhabited. And yes, they caused the Tunguska event.
Some of Mastigaunts are intelligent, and can even speak.
