She was the idea for May. Or rather, "Namah meeting the Serapean girl."
The 'Serapean girl' caught reader's eyes in the recent lore pages, and it seemed they could tell that there might be more than meets the eye there.
The reality is Aura has been an carefully designed character for the series for years and years, with planned appearances later in the graphic novels as Serapeum becomes relevant to the plot.
This seemed like the perfect opportunity to introduce her! Or at least, her color swatches and name.
Liz and I also had fun experimenting with the 'foreign language' style word balloons in this Sketch of the Month.
We wanted Serapean and Andurunan languages to have a common ancestry. But after so much time, they can't readily understand one another. But how to show this in a comic word balloon?
We've designed a modified language that, at first glance, may appear illegible, or at least has a distinctly 'foreign' look. But just as Andurunans may be able to understand if they listen closer, a more careful visual inspection may reveal the message.
We're not totally certain on if this will be our approach in the graphic novels, but this illustration was great to use as a test run!
Thank you to the backers for opening this Pandora's box.
This will be one of your (signed) art prints for May!
Great ideas as always from everyone, looking forward to seeing what's on the menu for June.
