2026-03-01 19:55:26 +0000 UTCI had never really thought much about the sounds made by electric trains until this episode... and I realised that the whining singing noises made by EMUs (90s Class 323s I think) were a huge part of my teenage years where a trip on the West Midlands Cross-City line usually meant a trip to visit a friend, or go to the cinema etc. A reminder of happier times.

2026-02-26 23:35:14 +0000 UTC1:50:00 Reguarding artic snow. Without checking the weather records for the incident pretty sure artic snow is referring to the light fluffy snow versus wet heavy. More technical would be low Snow Water Equivalent (SWE). Also could be related to the actual crystal structure being more sharp versus rounded, which translates to sharp = no, snowball round = good snowball. So the sharp low SWE snow is likely to get sucked up into the intake and block the heat exchanger is my guess. I won't get into speculating about vapor transport if it fell on an existing snowpack. That shit is way beyond my comprehension. Snow gets really complex when your trying to figure out if it will kill you while pleasuring yourself. As noted in recent events.

2026-02-23 22:07:45 +0000 UTCOk, looks like in the case of the GG1 force was transmitted mechanically by big arms hitting cups on the spokes, and the space between the quill shaft and the axle of the wheel was filled with a fuckton of grease in the style of a journal bearing. Other instances of the quill drive might transmit torque by the fluid motion of that grease like a really badly designed torque converter, but that's just speculation on my part. Might be wrong, I've been sleeping on my German and working on Esperanto lately.
