I think the reason that this rendition of Gangplank Galleon sounds so.. triumphant, for lack of a better term, is because before Smash Ultimate the last time King K. Rool made an appearance in any capacity was 2008's Mario Super Sluggers. The character was absent from both the Donkey Kong series and the Mario spinoff games for a decade at that point. Smash Ultimate would mark the first time in a decade that K. Rool appeared in any media at all. The character has gotten some love since then, having just made a prominent return to villain status in Donkey Kong Bananza, his first appearance in a mainline DK game since DK64 which was well over 25 years ago.

2025-12-02 01:44:45 +0000 UTCresident smash bros superfan here very happy you reacted to these for context gangplank galleon was originally the final boss theme of donkey kong country 1 the final boss being king k rool (the character in the image) he was highly requested before finally debuting in ultimate after placing high in an official fan poll about a year before the game started development and aerith's theme is one of four smash bros original ff remixes (see my comment) aerith isnt playable but she is an equipable support character (spirit) in the game about ultimate being the last in the series its currently the most recent game in the series but it's safe to say that it isn't the last the director went on to make a sequel to kirby air ride after finishing ultimate
