782. 1Upsmanship - Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

Adam and Michael take another retro dive and cover the 1997 action role-playing platformer, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The player becomes Alucard, half-vampire son of Dracula. You can tell he’s his son because Alucard is Dracula backward. Anyway, you run around with a sword and slice your way down an upside down castle. It’s considered one of the best games of all time by critics, but do Adam and Michael agree? Will they put it on the Hard Drive?

For sports games, start at the beginning guys, Atari Football. Lol!

One underrated mechanic of Hollow Knight that even From software hasn't got right is the charm system. When there's a powerful charm instead of 'take 30% more damage', Hollow Knight makes it take up more than 1 slot/notch. It's only after you overload the notches (which you can do) when you start taking double damage.

I don't know how they did it, but performing the entire back half of the episode as an upside-down version of the first half must have been quite a feat!

Oddly enough, in spite of having a laundry list of games I want to start playing, I've been replaying the same game recently. I just really enjoy replaying the game. Even though I want to play and complete the new games I have, I just can't pull myself away from replaying this same game.

mentioning it here cause y’all didn’t in the ep: Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night was initially Kickstarted by Koji Igarashi who was assistant director, producer and a writer on SotN as well as director of most of if not all of the DS Castlevania games. the Bloodstained kickstarter launch video it is very blatantly introduced as a love letter to SotN. in the final game it absolutely shows! Bloodstained is great!

I second this. Although they should play the early version where everyone was horny af, because Michael will appreciate it.

I'm so glad you guys covered this. It's one of my all time favorites. Which is why, ofcourse I bought ten of the advertised product on this show.

I'm here hat in hand, humbly begging for a Baldurs Gate 3 review.
