Interestingly much of the visual inspiration for this film was Canadian painter Alex Colville, who is fascinating himself. This painting was particularly important https://images.app.goo.gl/d4NDpHogWnp71cui7

Saw this when I was 15. Had recently gotten out of a relationship with a girl that my parents didn’t particularly approve of. The “everyone’s trying to keep us away” thing resonated deeply with me. Felt like one of the few movies that really nailed the “troubled kids fall in love” thing in a way that rang true, cartoony stuff aside

New patron, long time listener. Needed early access and to help Swaim. So happy to be here. Love you Swaim.

Have y'all read Steinbeck's Tortilla Flat? A loose retelling of Arthurian legends starring a lovable bunch of low-down thieving drunks.

Not my own experience, but my brother would’ve been 12 when this movie came out. Not sure if he saw it in theaters or a bit later, but this was a pretty impactful movie for him. He painted a still from it in an early high school art class that my mom still has somewhere.
