The manga and anime One Piece is a quirky, rambling, TITANIC piece of work, extending over 22 years, 91 tankoban volumes, and heading towards NINE HUNDRED EPISODES. Following the adventures of Monkey D. Luffy -- the self-proclaimed "Man who will be the PIRATE KING!" -- and his peculiar crew, this epic adventure is one of the greatest achievements of the shonen genre, and is still ongoing.
As with any anime, the show has background music. With twenty years of episodes, it has A LOT of background music, ranging from comedic to epic to grim to perky. I've collected quite a bit of it over the years, and some of it has been quite inspiring. I'll likely mention a few more pieces in this series.
This particular piece, "Overtaken", is one of the most commonly-played "pre-kickass" instrumentals of the show, and it took on that significance for me when writing Princess Holy Aura.
This piece of music is the one I had playing on endless loop when I wrote Chapter 61 of Princess Holy Aura -- when the Apocalypse Maidens are pinned to the ground, seemingly defeated... and then they first tear themselves free of the earth, and then rip the spiked stakes that had impaled them free, so they can all face Queen Nyarla and tell her: "the Apocalypse Maidens say that you are going down!"
