A Musical Note: "Super Strength", Two Steps From Hell

I collect, as one might guess from other things I've mentioned, a lot of soundtracks. This includes trailer music, such as produced by companies like Immediate Music and Two Steps from Hell. Some of these are very good, inspirational pieces.

"Super Strength" is one that wasn't just inspirational, it wrote its own scene, when I was writing my Oz-based novel Polychrome. The main "mortal world" protagonist, Erik Medon, had gained as one of his companions Zenga, daughter of Prince Inga of Pingaree and his wife Zella. Her parents not wanting her defenseless, she had been secretly given the legendary Pearl of Strength. Erik had already guessed this (partly from logical deduction, but mostly because he'd properly interpreted part of a prophecy). She was with him when he went to beg the Nome King for help -- and the King, Kaliko, decided to test him.

I had already decided that Kaliko would have to do something involving his companion as a final test, but hearing this piece crystallized the entire scene in my mind -- including Erik laughing and saying "She doesn't need ME to save her!". The piece delineates the entire sequence of events, from the reveal of the imprisoned Zenga to Zenga demonstrating the power of the Pearl against the entire might of the Nome Kingdom.

It's really a fine, dramatic piece and fits perfectly with this -- and possibly other -- scenes.
