Princess Holy Aura is my Mahou shoujo senshi (Magical Girl Warrior) novel. It draws from a number of mahou shoujo series, as well as other related sentail/shonen series, but two are by far the largest influences: Sailor Moon, which codified the modern magical girl warrior series and is certainly the best-known of the genre, and Puella Magi Madoka Magica. The latter is one of the most notorious deconstructions of the genre, one that starts out looking like a typical magical girl show, and then in the second episode takes a turn down a dark, dark road that doesn't let up until -- arguably -- the final sequence (and even that one has dark aspects).
But it also had some marvelous music, and its opening theme, Connect, is one of those. The orchestral version is one of the pieces of music I wrote Princess Holy Aura to, and in particular, the portion that starts at about 2:56 in this version is my envisioned BGM for the climactic scene in the novel, where Holy Aura takes in all the power of her sister Apocalypse Maidens and destroys Queen Azathoth Nine-Armed, saving the world (and Dex Armitage) at the cost of her own life.
There is also a particular video to the vocal version of the song, "Ver. Irony", which had imagery with the music that particularly inspired me in the writing imagery. If you watch that version, here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wWHET7huLms , you will see -- particularly starting at 3:35, which is roughly the same point as I noted in the orchestral version -- some of the spirit of that same scene.
