The only reason I never requested Worldend dominator is somebody else already has it on the list, fantastic song and fantastic section of the story it accompanies. If you were only ever to try one visual novel, I'd suggest Umineko, though it's even better if you've gone through Higurashi (When the Cicadas Cry) first as you'd be used to the unusual story structure they both employ. But yes, plenty of sound effects are used in the game along with excellent music, top-notch story and characters - there's a reason it's so popular!
