Don't worry, Jesse, we can tell when the song gets to you =) Roll Me In from Katamari Damacy comes to mind as a recent example. It's okay to not be swept away by everything. As a fellow person-untouched-by-FFXIV, I heard A Trail Unending here for the first time, and I didn't find it excessively ambient. I like it quite a bit. Also, wtf is the robo-Beatrix who is not named Beatrix, FFXIV? Although, I did see what they did with FFT characters, so I guess this is par for the course.

There are lots of homages in 14 but it has its own story with a main cast of characters, like all the mainline games. A Trail Unending is a dungeon theme, not a town. But there are walkable cities in 14. There is a day/night cycle. Main environments and cities even have day/night song versions.
