From what I can surmise on why Mario becoming a global phenomenon is that it came out when the gaming industry as a whole was in a creative slump. (The industry crashed in 1983.) Nintendo came on the scene with it's console and marketed it as a toy rather than a video game to ease people into playing video games again. When people started playing Super Mario Bros, the concept was incredibly easy to grasp for all ages and the overall art style was distinct enough to stand out from the games that came before it. Word of mouth definitely propelled Mario into super stardom. I think the reason few people requests any of the tracks from early Mario games is the assumption is that you have heard them already so their is no need to, desptie stating that you aren't familiar musically on that end of the gaming sphere. Well that's my theory. It's also a nice reminder how much of a banger this track is after 30 years. Koji Kondo is quite the composer.

2024-06-30 06:55:50 +0000 UTCIn case you’re curious, the reason why the castle theme is so dark is because they are castles that have been taken over by bowser and his minions. This is almost always the final stage for one of the worlds, and often filled with the hardest challenges.

2024-06-30 04:52:15 +0000 UTCI feel like the lack of SMW in your request chart is not so much because 'the music is not its strong point' but because so much other musical greatness has happened since that time that it falls in priority, especially if they're paying donations to get their requests in. Many of us who grew up in the SNES era got this game bundled with the console and so its sound tracks formed a sort of baseline that we compared to all the rest of the ones that came after. I for one would love to hear more early Mario on your channel but damned if I'd put it in before covering more masterpieces from Uematsu and Mitsuda for example.
