I got into Ys recently and fell in love with the series. I played them in numerical order (starting w/ Origin), and VIII was so different from everything before but in a really good way. I think long-time fans appreciate the twist on the tried-and-true formula. Additionally, I've never played a game where the antagonistic force you're fighting against is so unexpected, impactful, and well-presented. I've never seen a game do this before; it's so unique, it sticks with you forever.
