Starting to think that's exactly what he's been doing, which would explain why he's so eager to get Mace alive for the time being. Ravat did speculate last volume that Nabonidus's power is "burning out" the more he uses it, maybe all the powers he has were taken from Dreamkeepers. And since they're not originally his own, each one fades to nothing when he's used it all up.
