CoS January Devlog: Dawn of the Diesels

Howdy folks! We're back here in 2025 to show off the ALCO DL535 and how it's simulated within Century of Steam. Recall it's really a century of 3' gauge railroading - and that includes diesels! This is a gorgeous locomotive with lots of fun simulation built in, and we talk about a ton of other new features along the way... come check it out!

Comments

We recorded over 3 hours of footage of DL535's working uphill from multiple angles. They make black smoke at certain points in the vlog, but as is also the case irl, the stack clears up quickly once the turbo is able to keep up with the engine, and we've simulated the turbo in the game.

Studio346

pretty sure the bumblebee paint scheme is copyrighted, dont count me on it tho

ZuLu

I just became a member and already I don’t regret it anymore, love the good work and keep it up!

Maurits Groothuizen

I’d love to be able to use the D&H blue and grey paint scheme that they used on most of their road switchers on these.

Emil Persson

American trains dont have a gradual release. Just a full release

Sean D.

I wanna see a K-28. Diamond stack. Fancy box headlight. And bumblebee paint scheme

Nick Porter

To be perfectly honest I don't think there's enough smoke coming from the ALCOs. If you actually look up videos of the old ALCOs working hard, they had a tendency to belch black smoke. Also if you guys just want to release update videos every other month I'm out perfectly okay with that if it means we get more longer form content. Still great video.

ShadowSteel18

Q&A Question that just came to mind: The devlogs mention difficulty settings, such as turning off firing, are these settings toggleable for each locomotive or is it an all or nothing type of thing? If it is the latter, if possible i would suggest doing it the other way, so that people who like the challenge and people who are here for the trains can enjoy the game at the same time.

ZuLu

We've talked about this before in other dev vlogs, but we'd like to reflect the ordering experience real railroads would've had at the time, and a research tree doesn't capture that experience well. Railroads would not have been gatekept from certain equipment by arbitrary experience requirements or until they had proven themselves or bought into specific technology or R&D, etc.; instead, builders offered catalogs of available locomotives that were updated periodically as new models were introduced, and it was up to railroads to evaluate their alignments and traffic to choose the catalog offering that was the most appropriate for their operational needs. If a player wanted a mikado and a builder offered one in that catalog, it'd be bad business to turn down that sale!

Studio346

Just a suggestion, but it would be cool if in game, we could see a tech tree of sorts. Instead of all technologies and engines being available from the start, you start off with the old stuff, and as you work your way up, gathering "Research Points" either from playing the game and selling goods, or some other methods, you can "Purchase" a new technology that would unlock certain locomotives and customization features. This would add some cool progression for people, such as myself, who enjoy a game that has a great sense of progression instead of being more of a sandbox with a money system.

Jordan Witmer

Ok I will be getting a diesel, but one just so I can have a K5LA

Frisco 1523

Newfoundland land stuff would probably be a no given its difference in gauge.

The California Poppy

Couple more legitimate questions: Will we be seeing later 3ft passenger cars, such as steel heavyweights as seen from the NdeM or streamlined cars from the CN/Newfoundland Railway? Will there also be options for air whistles in addition to horns? I know you slipped in a couple Japanese whistles for the steam engines, so can we give our diesels that distinctive JNR chirp as well? How much of a nightmare is double-heading steam with diesel proving to program? Or is that just a straight "Yeah, no. We're not doing that."? Honestly, I wouldn't blame you if that was the case.

Sir Reginald Lee IV

This is an awesome update, but I think there's one thing we all want to know: Will there be a simulated broken toilet where the sewage vanishes into the floor pan, and will you need to hire an attractive young anthropomorphic goat lady to come pump out the pee lakes with scenic poo vistas? Old timers around the other side of Mark's Jekyll & Hyde personality, if ya know, ya know.

Sir Reginald Lee IV

The c425 was standard gauge. CoS will only be narrow gauge so it is out of scope.

The California Poppy

I know its a long shot of a question and im not sure how much support it would get but I would absolutley love to see the mid 60's Alco C425 High hood made. I know only a handful were built and only one survives. (the one from the movie, planes trains and automobiles) apart from that really looking forward to driving around a high hood in the game!

Acekiller887

Question, so will we be able to make the towns our self's or is it already made or are there options to that?

Danny Bennett

will the winter air intakes have purpose in diffrent weather or just visual

tomsv8s

I've got two flavors of M3 (including a very clapped out one) so far. IIRC the intro shot w/ the diesel through the crossing is one of the M3's.

Studio346

I got this feedback from another gentleman who runs 26 air. I've only run 26 the one time, and I'm getting conflicting feedback from other members of our own team. I'll dive in and we'll make sure it's right.

Studio346

I appreciate that you see that! It was a total pain and took a *lot* of hours. Still more to go and bugs to squash, but it feels really good to have gotten this far this quick!

Studio346

idea for fun: it would be really cool to have different collectables to be added to the cab. like bobbleheads posters, builders plates! you could add an infinite amount of things. i personally like getting plates with how many miles you've driven. just a thought!

Ethan

All we need is some screwed track

Jared Stafford

Leslie A200 is all I want

Neon Texan

The weathered high hood, the blue paint, really gives you the shitty clapped out ALCO feel and I love it!

Mason Koczur

Those Rico and Delores bobble-heads is so cute!!! I'd totally buy one if you made it available also shameless horn wishlist Wabco E2 Nathan K2 Nathan K5hl Nathan K5la narrow front

The Infamous Gracie Spoingus

I've always found Alaskan narrow gauge super interesting and as someone who lives there it's awesome to see representation from what is in my opinion an overlooked part of narrow gauge history. This game is looking to be the best railroading game to come out. As always, take your time and keep up the great work. I'd be happy to wait until 2030 if that's what y'all need.

Erik Schiller

I’m so happy about being able to make my own paint schemes for the rolling stock. Finally I can fulfill my childhood dream of creating my own livery

Carter Kissinger

do you have plans for any more geared locos, like a climax or a heisler?

Cheetalo

Things like this sort of get looked over because of he standard you guys hold yourselves to, but It’s incredibly impressive that you all have managed to script a fully fleshed out diesel locomotive simulation with plenty of polish in the span of *maybe* 3-4 months max. And a simulation that has no noticeable bugs in it as well? Kudos to you all on that, this kicks ass

RF3985

Also when the locomotive is in trail the automatic should be in handle off and cut out

Jeremy Taylor

Also something i noticed when you were making the hook on the ponderosa map. You bailed off the independent with the independent handle in the sevice zone. As i recall the independent will only bail off if its in the released postion. If the handle is applied and you actuate it shouldn't bail any air off. Or atleast thats how our locomotives work.

Jeremy Taylor

I only have 2 horns i wanna see. Nathan M3 and leslie RS3L. Nuff said

Jeremy Taylor

another thing u should make is a map of the nevada state railroad museum in Carson City to go with the Glenbrook from todya

dana

SICK we got diesels in Century of steam and i also saw the diesel in the trailer on steam

dana

Bit of a question related to signals but you were saying In a past dev log that their would be signal towers if I’m not mistaken would that also mean switch towers if the player wanted that

Ben

DUDE. Well done. Looks killer and I’m on the edge of my seat for eventual release. Keep up the good work team.

Tucker Horseshit

As others have said, dont waste time by creating gameplay that you wont use normally. Simulating systems that are for example left on auto normally doesnt make much sense. The dev time is spend better elsewhere.

Sweetwater

that would be cool, like a plymouth 14-tonner

Cheetalo

they have said that they are not bringing that to the game because it would be too tedious to take the time to fire up a loco every time you want to run it, they will always be hot.

Cheetalo

Looks great, I know this is in the “nobody asked” category but two questions/requests 1) will cabooses have the ability to mount Horns (common practice) 2) since we have Westinghouse air breaks, how about a Westinghouse E2B1, very common on Baldwin diesels and a very unique horn

Darius Zbojniewicz

Totally modding my horn to play "La Cucaracha"

Casey O. Jones

Me too, but I doubt it

CrisperEye6

I have to say that high hood DL would look savage in an SP “Black Widow” paint scene. What a cool “bookend” update!

Drew Barker

Can't say I'm nearly as interested in diesels as I am steam, but these look nice. I'll at least have a pair as I collect locamotives like Pokemon lol. I would like to see an easier MU set up option in the difficulty options, that looks like a lot to remember.

Andrew Schock

I’m not sure if this has been asked before but will locomotives, steam or diesel, be able to be fired up/started from cold? With a full startup process for the diesels?

Jacob Durbin

Random idea but a PRR green and a Burlington red and white would be awesome paint schemes to have on the DLs

minegameman05

Absolutely love all the work you guys have done so far and can't wait to see what you have to offer next!

Minjeo

Great devlog! I really hope for smaller diesels but either way this was really exciting!

Totti Von Lotti

i think the radiator controls is something to add at the very end of development. If you have the time. After the Studio has made some money from release

Mallahawk25

Wow, great update to start off 2025! Thanks as always for all of the hard work you all put into this. Regarding paint schemes, I'd love the ability to do something similar to this Frisco scheme here: https://www.condrenrails.com/Frisco/SLSF546.jpg Something that I hadn't thought about until now with these locomotives having an enclosed cab, is there a noticeable sound level difference between having the doors and windows opened/closed? I wasn't sure if the cabs on these were insulated enough to make a large difference or not typically - my apologies if it was touched/shown in the video, I might have missed it.

Tp

As far as paint schemes, the orange and silver scheme a few of the 535s wore when they went to Columbia would be a neat addition! (Even if it is a little outside the era of the game)

Josh

Another scheme I just thought of is a more unique one, the 1947 Freedom Train livery. With your customization I feel you could probably get a fair few prideful liveries.

Chessie Gunn

You do work for UP.... huh.

Studio346

You can't blow up a diesel locomotive. *Wedges fusee between carbody and crankcase overpressure*

Justin Kardas

You guys need to sell that bobblehead as a product!

I DEMAND DONUTS

Just for curiosity sake, What are the specs of the pc you are running the game on, and what kind of performance are you getting. I assume optimization will likely be better at release then current, just wondering where its at now?

DokkLord15

I commented on the last one that things were too much "on rails" and I LOVED seeing the hunting. First time I've noticed the ties not being too uniform too. Seeing locomotives rocking, hunting and pulling a string of cars that rock around on the track just makes it feel so much more real.

Dan Silbaugh

I have two questions, first one is: will this game feature different switches aswell? I assume that we won't just have stub switches only. The second question is: How does the gradual release on passenger cars work IRL? I'm only familiar with the working concepts of European brake so I'm curious how this works on american cars, cause it seems to be different.

ssingfo

Oh and I forgot to add we would still all love to see a video going through all the current whistles in the game. I'd love to hear those wonderful whistles that we haven't heard yet.

Douggie the Wyoming train guy

Looks great and I love it though I do have a few questions. 1. Will there be the ability to create your own custom paint schemes for the diesels? I know a lot of people (myself included) would love to see their own custom schemes on these wonderful diesels. I know my fictional 3ft gauge Wyoming railroad the Boxelder and Buck Peak railroad has a few schemes that I'd love to see on these diesels and i cant be the only one. And 2. This might be a dumb one so sorry if it is. I know you guys said C of S will not INITIALLY release on consoles (Xbox Playstation) but would it be something you guys consider for the far future? For example the game is completely done bugs are all patched out, would it be something you guys would consider then? Since a lot of franchises like railroads online and trainz are moving to consoles. Anyways love the game, can't wait to see more dev vlogs in the future, keep doing what you do, I love you guys!

Douggie the Wyoming train guy

Luckily they don't even have to go export for the GEs, as there's both a GE 70 ton ex army switcher and GE shovelnose engines that worked on the White Pass (the army switcher also kicked around the Grande for a bit). I doubt we'll see EMDs cause they want to keep to American narrow gauge, and the DL535 was American, they're just adding more customization to it

Chessie Gunn

I look forward to having SP little giant in the game Since I run a sister or cousin to it, that is a really interesting and kind of different compared to other diesel locomotives especially compared to the 535

Matthew Kemper

Reminder, nobody wants DLC that is just generic props that are flipped from the asset store (looking at the "Other" game there).

ThatCrazyAssSkunkGuy

for all features think, would people buy this as DLC or not? if not the'll likely not buy into it in the base game too

Mich Geeson

The diesels are awesome. I hope yall have the best internal combustion powered rail vehicles, the RGS Geese in plan for this game.

ZuLu

Man I didn’t realize how much I like high hood AlCOs… I hope you have some export GEs and EMDs on the drawing board

BuckH

they have said that they are not doing anything outside the US and im 99% sure there were no narrow gauge electric locos in the US

Cheetalo

Aslo those little figurines of Rico and Delores are just plain adorable!

C. H. Smith

Unimportant question but do cars, the not rail kind, say, pop up as set pieces if the era is right?

C. H. Smith

Sorry if this has already been asked, but will there be electric locomotives too? I don't know if there where any narrow gauge electric locomotives in the US, I only know that we had them here in Europe.

Giondal the Cyberdwarf

I think it would be cool if you guys added the stock cars that the Southern Pacific built on top the Carson and Colorado flat cars in the 1930’s.

Kyle Ketten

Within game, all maintenance is game-handled. Our focus is train crew related. There is a richness and wonder to maintaining a steam locomotive, and it's absolutely something I love personally; but it doesn't make much sense for the game, and would be an absolute chore to do properly - which is why we're sticking with train crew things.

Studio346

I’d love to have figurines too lol. Me and many other people would buy the transgender deer railroader figurine in a heartbeat lmao

Cassidy H. G. R.

Love to see ALCo diesels, the high-hood version especially. I'm already imagining paint schemes! Horn-wise... hopefully some Leslie horns get added in due course (S3L/RS3L especially). Would be a fun thing to see if you guys could get the Rico and Dolores bobbleheads to... well... bobble. (There's a future IRL merch idea too... would absolutely buy the pair)

J.L. Agneta

Absolutely wonderful video, loved every moment. For schemes, i'd personally love to see schemes inspired by the SP, D&RGW, maybe NdeM as they had an extensive 3ft network as well, and some generic enough schemes that folk can color to match their own vision for their railroad.

Cassidy H. G. R.

Idk why but the idea of an Acela style Hybrid K5LA on this engine while riding down the flats of the Inyo map would be funny

Chad Hubler

Oh! And how far is Studio 346 planning to go into the starting/stopping and vigilance/penalty systems on the 'modern' stuff. Watching you climb Ponderosa at crawling speeds, I keep mentally reaching out to smack the vigo button I know should be somewhere on or above the windowsill or on the Control Stand. I may be a wee bit institutionalised...

Rex Anger

So Mark, now that we have seen the crunchy bits and marvelled at the audio for your Diesel- Electric sim with an ALCO flavour, is there any chance of seeing what Studio 346 can do with its primary competitor? EMD's 567s and 645s need the Century of Steam treatment, too...

Rex Anger

i love the automobiles in this one. i know they are just props for the background but they add so much to the feel of a place.

WillysWarrior 43

Your forgot the South Aussie 'Mustard Pot' livery! Just replace the Piping Shrike herald with a Rico. Or an ESD Tricolour...

Rex Anger

I definitely did not ask for a '68 several times over. :D

Studio346

Hey Will! Great to see you here. 1. Here we go with the, "it depends" - and, I'd be happy to have my understanding proved wrong if I don't have the 26L piece of this quite right. You are correct that there's a point at which no more braking force is applied with American triple valves - if I'm remembering right off the top of my head, 90 PSI brake pipe reduced to 54 PSI brake pipe causes an equalization - the brake cylinder pressure equals the reservoir, equals the pipe, so if you reduce the pipe further, it physically can't squeeze more air into the cylinder. I wouldn't be surprised if that's how a typical full service set is designed; but that number does change based on feed valve setting, and I'm not certain if the full service is a guaranteed reduction amount in PSI, or if it's a proportion, which would allow handle off to squeeze down a bit more. Some american cars have control valves that have extra reservoirs that can sense you going deeper (typically in emergency) that then allow more air pressure to be squeezed in, but it's unlikely that much of the equipment in game will have such valves. The code follows what I just wrote, I was in presenter mode and definitely just said "less BP more brakes, duh!" which, not really. :D 2. That is cool to know - I didn't see that in the manuals we had, but I'll add it to the list! I take it that also means that the lead engine won't be allowed to go into dynos? 3. We'd love to see them; thankfully since the video came out our researchers did find some cab photos of the high hood export 535's, so we should be covered but you never know what you might learn with more reference. :D Cheers! Mark

Studio346

Phenomenal video! Couple of things, 1 at 11:30 you say "when you want more braking go to handle off". This may just be the difference between Aus and NA triple valves but I was taught that a full service application ( from a full brake pipe, just to avoid any shenanigans surrounding running out of air ) was the hardest the brakes would come on. 2, a funny thing that ALCo's do is when the power selector for a tailing engine is in power (1, 2, or 3) It will prevent any other locos MU'd to them incapable of transitioning to dyno 3, And if you'd I'll see if I can get a couple of photos of the interior of my high hood DL-451's as reference ( Yes I'm aware it's a different model but it may prove helpful reference if all else fails)

IWillBoom

1969 GTO somewhere in the scenery when the year ticks over to 1969? 😂

Captainbigboy

Another great video, love seeing all the detail in the game, those 50/60s buildings and cars are great. Love the little bobble head, maybe some more options? In terms of paint schemes, some DRG&W would be great, something akin to the switcher or 7b/7c scheme would look great on these. The Prospector or California Zephyr (the old ski train to Winter Park was a favorite of my grandpa's when he lived in Kremmling) would be great (even if its not on a cab unit).

Wild Bison

Whe a diesel saves a steamer on the ponderosa 😁👍

Solarus the long hauler railfan

Looks absolutely amazing! I hope we get to play this year.

HumanityKILLS

Amazing video to wake up to, excellent work! Scheme-wise, it would be interesting to see either the NSWGR 'Tuscan' livery from their early diesel era, or maybe SAR Red/Silver

Physigist

Made my day. Thanks guys.

Potatonotosaurus

how would we know when time passes over? would there be a popup saying "a day has passed" or like a month a year etc etc or is it like a wallet menu like in railroads online where it says everything you "need to know"

Spencer

I don't believe that is something that they have planed. Primarily because creating ai to follow user laid track is a whole can of worms. Also with the games scope only focusing on the days work of one to at most two train crews its not meant to be a simulation of a busy division with 10 trains running simultaneously. Its very much a quality over quantity approach.

The California Poppy

Excellent video! I got to see a lot of things here that brought a smile to my face. And I would love to see more on the 535e's as time goes on. As for scheme's that I would like to personally see, Quebec Cartier Mining's orange and black, green and yellow, and red, white & blue schemes all come to mind as well as a big "Flying Grande" style with some "Aspen Gold" scare stripes on the nose. Thanks for sharing this with us and already looking forward to the next month's video!

Paul Campanini

Love the new diesel locomotive. would there be any chance that we could see a slug unit to go with it. I believed railroad slugs started appearing in the 1940s so it would be in the time period

RoaringLegend 456

I would love to see a TH&B (Toronto Hamilton & Buffalo) or OSR (Ontario Southland Railway) cream and maroon livery for the DLs. The OSRs RS-18Us are some of my favourite looking diesels. Also my personal connection with OSRX 180 and 181. Them being the first engines I ever learned to switch with and run.

Mark Johnston

Loving the name of the desert map, the DL535's look fantastic and well-simulated and I'm excited to experience them! Boxcars look oddly familiar... lol. Happy to see them in-game!

sBinotto

You keep talking about maintenance hyce, one of my buddy's wants to be a full time machanic, work on locos, rolling stock, rail upkeep n laying new track. Is any of this a possibility? Thanks for the clarification.

Jim Yeetast

We have a contender for quote of the year - "you have to listen to your engine as you are beating it to death" . I am certainly not a dismal fan, but I can certainly appreciate the amount of work undertaken, and the Alco sounds took me back 50+ years to the sounds of my railway childhood. Another standout devlog - thanks.

G In Oz

Seeing the locos hunt more is a nice addition. They always looked to smooth before.

Karl Mathew Prager IV

Make it so... ;)

Studio346

Yes. Full PRR. High hood, long hood foward

Sean D.

You're absolutely right; it's long been on my list to do a complete audio-focused pass on how *everything* sits volume-wise and feels within the space. There's a lot of stuff that needs changed, but the priority has been on implementation on my end these days. More to come on that sort of thing later. :) - Mark

Studio346

That's $3.46 for the total sale actually, not per gallon. The Wayne Model 70 Pumps at the 1930s Sinclair-style gas station display a per-gallon price appropriate for the time it was built, a mere 23 cents!

Studio346

I feel like the audio should lose treble with distance, having it just highpass sounds a little weird. The sources don't feel distant like they should.

whonow

The closest map to that in terms of looks will be the San Juan map. There is no Alaska map.

The California Poppy

Any chance of the black widow scheme making an appearance on these?

Kilowatt

The intro is epic 😍 as epic as are these new diesel beasts 🔥

BOOMer

Great work , sound and feel just like the real thing, btw how did that car get to the logging camp? lol

Trevor Oudman

Also that music rift in the opening teaser for the diesel reminded me a bit of "Subterranean Homesick Blues" and that folk-rock noise is perfect for 1969. 👌

ThatCrazyAssSkunkGuy

I Just have to say, y'all have done great work. When mark said, "for the initiated, you'll know what this horn is" and I after hearing it I said out loud; "omg, is that a k5la?" For scheme's I'd like to see, definently the red, white, and blue scheme (don't know the name) that WP&Y 110 had at one point, and the SP daylight scheme (black with orange stripes and silver roof) Because, well, the high hood DL535 looks like an SP Trainmaster. Glorious work as always.

Violet S.

warning: low lube alarm on the small turbo Ds 🚨

threeleggedshrew

I like the idea of including things that might've not existed in the narrow gauge railroads of the past, but definitely could've been manufacturer's options at the time - a high-hood, long-hood-forward DL-535 being a great example. Had a railroad owner wanted one, Alco definitely would've made it. Y'all are modeling the hubris of railroad owners at this point, and I'm here for it.

Andrew Frame

The crossing signals are definitely a fun addition. I think it would be fun to have a variety like gates, or wig wags 🤔😂

TheBeeMan

If you're looking for suggestions for schemes for the DL535, my friend asked me to request the Providence and Worcester's "Modern" Red and Brown scheme.

Quinn Sparks

Can’t wait to see the white pass map with some 28s blasting the grade

SpagelSmegal

What an awesome devlog! worth the wait in my eyes

Slandered Stone

I’d love to see a Leslie A200 as a horn option, they were common on loads of earlier diesel locomotives and sound super cool!

glawowow not telling u my last name

Can we get a "randomize my boxcar" option? Lol.

1legotrain

Once again blowing my socks off with these great diesels!!

kyle pennypacker

I've got 3 hours of GoPro footage I need to review and tune to. They do smoke, not quite as much as folks always joke about - we want to make sure it's done properly. But when notching up they definitely do smoke a bit, and with maintenance condition... more. :) - Mark

Studio346

As noted in the vlog - the colors are all Flexicolor - so, you can set up whatever colors per scheme you so desire... Take a look at the WP&Y scheme, and imagine it orange and red. ;) - Mark

Studio346

It's presently centered over the engineer's seat itself; we'll be tweaking this sort of thing in the future. - Mark

Studio346

That's been our mantra - happy to see you agree!

Studio346

Many of the things you saw on the locomotives in this video were already decals so - yes!

Studio346

GREAT JOB, team! It is such a treat to see all the finer details of late game progress from the buildings and cars, sounds, overall vibes and then the diesels. It really gives a sense of progression and offers a little bit for everyone. I understand why you're back-and-forth on modeling things like all the different contacts in the electrical cabinet, but I would suggest staying with your original Mantra of 50% game 50% game 50% train. I think it offers plenty of realism and simulation, but allows you to move on to other details in the game such as commodities and industries, outside detail, and then ultimately getting us to a point of release (early option maybe?) There's no bad element of cheesiness or anything so personally I think it is good the way it is as far as the different things already in there. Thank you so much for all you do!

Billy Rueckert

Will we have the decal system work on these? And the same question for steam tenders

minegameman05

That was a very nice intro! With that 3.46 gas price. I like the style!

Umoado’s Gaming & Trains

Those little changes in the UI are emblematic of the quality of the game. Y'all get it. You get the accuracy with the subject matter, and you get that it needs to be a good game. Even from the first videos I can see big improvements in how the game is played. Thanks so much for the awesome dev log!

WasatchWind

Oooooh, DL535's...and EBT Boxcars...and were those Oregon Lumber Company Flatcars toward the rear of the train? They certainly look like the diagrams in Rails Sagebrush and Pine. 👀

Bandan

Bit of a odd ask but AFTER the game is released would you ever consider a “public release” of hyasynth as a website where people can make their own whistles and horns? Or would that be to complicated?

minegameman05

Don't waste time simulating something that is just left in auto all the time, not that important in the grand scheme of things. In general, don't simulate stuff that a normal train crew won't have had to mess with, and only include the other stuff that is related to what shops crews regularly had to work with.

Justin Weinberg

Yeah you've hit the Southern fan, this is so exciting, very exciting for Long Hood Forward ops. As for schemes, possibly Florida East Coast Railway champion scheme? At least one high hood GP wore it if you need a sorta style guide for that. Other than that, Southern, and NYC lightning stripe (the latter two popular enough you likely have them on the radar anyway) I can't think of anything else. This is a beautiful engine that has me real excited, and the customization options already has me very excited. I couldn't tell in the vid (I may need to go back to see) does removing the winterization equipment also remove the knob in the cab? Wonderful work as always, has me real excited to get behind the controls

Chessie Gunn

Great work on the DL-535 and I love the options! I've been thinking about other diesels that could serve alongside the DL-535. From my own research, other possibilities for 3ft gauge diesels include: EMD G8 EMD G12 GE U4B GE U6B GE U12C GE 25-Ton GE 44-Ton GE 50-Ton (SP ran one, briefly) GE 70-Ton GE 76-Ton (US Army #3000 ran on the D&RGW for a short bit.) GE 84-Ton (WP&Y Shovelnose)

Forrest

A prototype paint scheme from "down south" worth suggesting, the classic red & yellow Ferrocarriles Argentinos scheme. Their broad gauge ALCO RSD-16 engines wore those colors, and so did their meter gauge EMD locomotives as well.

ThatCrazyAssSkunkGuy

I imagine nothing, from the looks of it the flag was put in the knuckle. All that happens is the knuckle rotates in and gets locked in place.

TheUndeadHooligan

oh Century of Diesel, my favorite game......

Brady Cure

Should’ve gotten the Shay to help up the grade. Great work as always and, though I’m always a man of steam, I’m excited to run these when h the time comes. It’s always great to see the game getting closer and closer to release.

TheUndeadHooligan

Perlman gets chainsaw ready!

Andrew Porter

I was eagerly awaiting the new video and I can't say I was disappointed. Well done y'all. One question I have: what happens when you try to couple into a coupler with the end of train flag in it? As a side note, a while back y'all asked about other stuff to put on the patreon and a thought occurred to me upon seeing the note about the video being almost finished last night: it might be fun to release eye candy screenshots (perhaps something that could be used as a desktop background). Prepared to be wrong, but that strikes me as something that would be fairly quick to put together, perhaps with a blurb about what we're looking at, and could be sprinkled throughout the month. Also, I really enjoy the little let's play segments.

Can the view from the engineers seat be shifted to the right a little bit? More centered on the windshield?

Please add the shovel nose diesels from the White Pass & Yukon! Also add mechanicals.

I notice "diesels" is plural? That doesn't have anything to do with the number 90 or letter W does it?

My only question for this narrow-gauge ALCO is this: will I be able to slap a daylight scheme on it?

in my opinion you should definitely model the radiator shutters and maybe even some of those breakers if you get the time at some point.
