Star Blazers: SB Yamato 2199 S1E21 'Prison Planet 17' FULL LENGTH Reaction & Review

I was eager to see Greg's reaction to the reverence which the Gamilons held the Iscandarians. It absolutely opens up a buttload of questions. I respect the creators of this series for making each of the major characters individuals with personal beliefs and desires which they spend their lives striving towards. As the saying goes, the villain see themself as the hero of their own story and this plays out true here. Dessler is a person of tremendous power and sees his fate must equally be on a grand scale. His ambition unmatched by anyone around him, except for the captain of the Yamato, but with Okita’s health waning, we must hope that his resolve to fulfill his mission will carry him and the crew to reach Iscandar and finally back to Earth. Considering what the crew of the Yamato have already achieved they are already legends. The next few episodes will continue to raise the bar of this excellent show. I can’t wait to see Greg watch and react to events that unfold next.

Another great episode, and yes that's one hell of a reveal at the end - though repeat viewings show that it's been somewhat foreshadowed, e.g. see episode 6, just under five minutes in, as Dessler gazes up at the sky and a mysterious blue planet. Small comment on Dommel's wife, there's a short scene on Gamlias (E15) where we see an escaping prisoner hide in Dommel's estate, with the pursuing forces hesitant to enter after realising who it belongs too. From what I recall we don't see any more of that, but that's where the whole 'Dommel's wife is a traitor' stuff comes from (and to be fair, she probably is, good for her).
