Babylon 5 S1E2 'Soul Hunter' FULL LENGTH Reaction & Review

Love the little nuggets of information we’re given about the Minbari and specifically Delenn. JMS planting important seeds early. 😁

You did not watch the pilot to the TV show, right? I can't remember, but I think you mentioned it in the last episode? Not a big loss; some things would be good, but there are also some negatives in regards to the show. Anyhow, S1 remains its own thing any way, very close to episodic tv shows in the past but with highly relevant connections nonetheless. I grew to love Sinclair, is there still something setting you off with him? I mean, the way he acts? It is different, though I would agree, but I enjoy him now very much.

Well this was a nice surprise, wasn't expecting to watch this until tomorrow (very different timezone). Soul Hunter is a great episode, and yeah it covers some rather deep subjects for being just episode #2. I appreciate how it doesn't really take sides, sure we see Delenn cracking open those soul orbs at the end, and something is released, but what? Souls going on to merge with their kindred like she believes? Souls enjoying an instant of freedom before being snuffed out forever, as the Soul Hunters think? Or maybe it's just a bit of high-tech gas with the memories of the deceased encoded within, like Dr. Franklin might suggest. Who knows, the show doesn't demand we believe anyone, it lets us make up our own minds. Re: future relevance. No spoilers obviously, will just say that while season 1 is more episodic than the rest of the show, every episode has something that will be important later, and Soul Hunter is certainly no exception. Some cast comments again: Mira Furlan (Delenn) was a successful film, tv and stage actress from Yugoslavia who fled to the US when the civil war broke out there in the early 90s. I believe B5 was the first role of any note she got after arriving, and while a couple of her early performances might be a tad rough, she really grows into it and delivers some of the fantastic scenes in later episodes. And while she'll always be Delenn to me, Furlan is probably far better known to the average TV viewer for the major role she went on to have in Lost (supposedly JJ Abrams was a B5 fan and wanted her specifically because of how great she'd been in that). Richard Biggs (Dr. Franklin) was almost entirely deaf, which made his career choice of being an actor a difficult path. Sometimes his performances are a bit flat, but on the whole I think he does a respectable job. If you pay close attention you can sometimes see him in background shots mouthing the words of his co-stars' lines, so he'll know when it's his turn to speak since he can't actually hear them. Can't wait for next week!
