The Expanse 5x3 - 'Mother' TIMESTAMP / FULL LENGTH Reaction & Review

Yeah it's really awesome news. I liked the book a lot, but I'm looking forward to the adaptation even more. It's really cool that Naren Shankar, Breck Eisner, Ty and Daniel will all be doing it together. It feels like getting the band back together. Hopefully the show somewhat feels like a spiritual successor to the The Expanse. Would love to see some cast members return too.

Here is something the others missed: Naomi's big friend from Pallas is called Cyn. Also a great actor playing him! And the woman seeming to hold a grudge is Karal (in the books that character was a man but it doesn't really matter and this actor is also phenomenal).

I have to say, some of your theories are truly unique among all the reactors I have seen! Others have corrected some of the misses (and I love T Arnold noticing the earther interrupting the joke asking for a bourbon! Thanks T Arnold!! LOL) I wanted to second that the man on the beach was near Dakkar in Senegal and definitely NOT our man Nico. There is a sign on the beach in Swahili just to help localize this horrific event. On to one of the very best episodes in all of The Expanse (as someone pointed out, "boring" hahaha!)

Off topic, but Expanse-ish news https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/the-expanse-captives-war-tv-series-amazon-expanding-universe-1236215983/

Remember Drummer said she doesn't drink when she's sad, she drinks when she's angry. I think her sadness overwhelms her anger at this point, which is why she didn't drink.

Never caught how slow the bourbon moves in the glass they give the scientist before in the opening scene. When people care about the small things you know you can trust them with the big things

I'm just gonna put this out there—for reasons I cannot divulge, I reckon the next two episodes would be perfect candidates for the double-header you promised a few months back!

And that's what I consider Act 1 for season 5. Tremendous set up and then the huge event to cap it off and lead us into the next episodes. It always amazes me on a rewatch just how good the visuals are for a show that likely had a miniscule budget compared to a lot of feature films that didn't look as good. Across the board the production elements for this show were just so good. I'll save your plot theories for later. Confirmation or denial will give hints either way :) Thanks again!

So in watching this series, did you ever think it'd lead to allowing a villain to succeed in their earth ending scheme? So many shows/movies have the villain stopped at the very last second from their nuke, bomb, etc but not The Expanse! Now comes 5x4 and crazy enough it'll feel like 1x4 felt in season 1 and 2x4 for season 2! You better get in a seat because you'll be hamburger at the speeds The Expanse is going to be traveling next episode; I can't wait!!!

I will say, I do think Marco is at least somewhat well versed in gauging asteroid trajectories. We hear in this episode that he used to be a slingshot pilot. I think that's the writers nod to the fact that Marco does have some knowledge in how asteroid trajectory works. That's why we see him constantly keeping his eye on his projection hologram.

Next episode, one of my faves

The actress that plays Lt. Babbage was a main character on Hannibal. She really is a good actress. Marco and crew were also DEFINITELY upset the rock broke up. That’s exactly why they boarded the science ship, killed the crew and tried to destroyed the ship and all the data. Fortunately for us, Earth was able to save some of the data, just not enough in time. Your Gao conspiracy is also WAY out there 😅 she’s Marco’s age. How could he have planted her from birth lol She’s just a younger person in the political sphere that thought she could do better than Avasarala. And like most politicians, they’re always trying to upstage one another.

About the rocks accuracy: as you rightly say, "these days" we are not so accurate, but this is suposed to happen a few centuries in the future. Who´s to say that we won´t get better at that? Also, when Marco is looking at the solar system holograms, you can see the projected latitude, longitude and time of impact for each rock. Not to say they´re 100% accurate...

It´s the same actor for Cortazar. No, rock #9 (of 9 in total) breaking up wasn´t part of the plan - that´s why they had to raid the science ship near Venus. They needed to make sure that Earth wouldn´t find out or suspect what was going on. The rock that hit Earth has nothing to do with the one that broke up. Rock #9 pieces would have been detected (and they were! by the Venus science ship) - remember that they only had stealth tech coating on one side? The last episode of S4, the first of this season, and this very episode showed you clearly how many rocks were in flight. They also showed you the projected points and times of impact. This rock hit the Atlantic coast of Africa, so no, that guy wasn´t Nico. Marco is smart, but not as smart as he think he is. ;)

The next episode is boring, you can skip it hahaha jk

FWIW, there is an episode of the “Ty and That Guy” podcast with Thomas Jane where they discuss his directing this episode. Ironically, the joke was interrupted when an earther entered the bar and asked for a bourbon. I think you're giving Marco too much credit about his knowledge of orbital mechanics, and being able to aim the rocks with accuracy. Consider that when the technique is used these days for sending space probes, there are needs for course adjustments. A "rock" has no means of making course corrections. However, don't let me try to "muffle" your paranoia. It's always interesting to watch you go down rabbit-holes. 😀.
