Robotech 1x41 'Half Moon' FULL LENGTH Reaction & Review

The one where we learn how much Bowie means to Dana. Loving this leg of the series!

Robotech 1x41 'Half Moon' FULL LENGTH Reaction & Review

Thank you for the kind offer, my friend! I may very well take you up on it but I'll need to wait a bit until I cycle through LoVM and Agatha. Plus Lower Decks and Arcane are returning in the next few weeks. Going to need to stop sleeping if I want to watch all the things I want to watch :D

This was a fun rewatch. 😁 It helps that “Half Moon” is a damn good episode.

I know you have MANY MANY titles to react to already, so I'm gonna do the only practical thing and recommend some more. LOL! To which I would like to recommend the anime "Goblin Slayer" and "Kakuriyo -Bed & Breakfast for Spirits-". Both are available on Crunchyroll streaming platform. Another recommend, though not available on Crunchyroll but is available on HIDIVE streaming, is "GATE". If you need, I can help with a 1 year gift subscription to allow you access to check out its offerings.

I like Robotech as a whole, including Masters, but even I when rewatching the series will often skip Masters every other time. When I watch Masters I always forget it's better then I remember. I think it's the pacing. Macross and Next Generation just feel faster. The plot moves day to day. Masters, is a stalemate in the same region and feels like it drags a bit. Like WWII Blitzkrieg vs WWI's Trench War. Countries fell rapidly in WWII where in WWI years are spent over the same field. That's what Masters kinda feels like. Especially to a kid.

Surprised Greg didn't say "Looks like I picked the wrong week to quick smoking." when he saw all the cigarettes in the ashtray.

Finally, on the issue of the SDF-1 ruins site and New Macross City. After Khyron's final attack ("To the Stars"), the United Earth Forces leadership (likely Rick, Lisa, Leonard, Emerson, Breetai, Exedore, and perhaps a few others) ordered the area sealed off. There were two reasons for this: first, the area really was dangerously irradiated and unsafe for people to be in for extended periods of time. Second, the UEF kind of had a vague awareness that some important Protoculture-related device (the matrix that makes Protoculture) was in there, but they hadn't identified or located it, and didn't want unauthorized parties to find it first. The Global Military Police (GMP) is primarily responsible for keeping interlopers out of this area.

Excellent point, my friend!

Another factor that might have influenced the relative unpopularity of MASTERS in the 80s, other than the valid observations you offered, is that during that time, much of the audience was probably not accustomed to seeing a girl as the lead character of an action/adventure series. I mean...who else had audiences seen in that mold? Wonder Woman? She-Ra? Badass female action characters, especially as lead characters, were still a new concept in the 80s and not everybody was ready to embrace. I believe Dana was one of those characters who broke through, in a sense.

The third part of ROBOTECH is officially designated THE NEW GENERATION, though many fans refer to it as THE INVID INVASION or THE INVID WAR. That would have been spoilery had you not already watched THE SENTINELS and learned what the Invid are. The Masters themselves continually hint at the impending Invid Invasion throughout the second saga.

Their relationship somewhat parallels that of Roy Fokker and Rick Hunter, though there's much less of an age gap (Roy had good ten years on Rick; Dana might be a year older than Bowie). They do relate to each other almost like siblings, however.
