The Expanse 1x4 - 'CQB' FULL LENGTH Reaction & Review

Ummm...I may have dramatically underestimated the lack of 'effs' this show has to give :D
Amazing series!

Also Amos says to Shed, "They told me you joined the Cant to get away from a drug dealer who wanted you dead." To which Shed replies, "well, that's true!". LOL They were all interrogated. (I have seen this show way too much but I still enjoy it every single time!!)

Can't tell you how much I appreciate your incredibly kind words, my friend, and let me say that it is a privilege to have you along for the ride! Thank you (and everyone) for being here and helping me through this amazing show!

Not only I enjoy your passion about the series itself but you may be very first reactor for me to not skip the video when episode is over. Your in-depth analysis are great, not saying you are right or wrong, but you are really thinking about what is going on not just say first thing to come to mind. This show will be very rewarding for you and me both. Through your eyes I can re-live the mystery, even though I have seen show many times, read all the books, played the game (yes, there is a game from Telltale you should eventually try, came out september or october 2023 and it is prequel-suggest to try somewhere in the middle of S02) with you it is all new to me again. Thank you friend

He did, right before Sheb said this. He said something along the lines of "To suck it," if I remember correctly.

Great comment: I would add that rail guns are usually preserved for bigger ships because of their power and inertia, I think. They mentioned it in the episode, the size relation, and I think it's just another hint at how advanced those attackers are. Mars is considered the military power with the most advanced military technology. Earth has numbers but slightly older tech. With those rail guns, you have pretty much an unstoppable weapon in certain situations, which makes it a feared weapon in the Expanse. It's important to understand the threat certain ships pose because of their weaponry. On the torpedo side, I would mention how cool it is that they focus so hard on that. What you usually get are small craft space fighters, but those just don't make much sense, at least if they have to be manned. Unmanned strikecraft or torpedoes can go faster and have a lot more use this way.

So sorry Shawn! I was trying to edit my response to your comment and like an idiot deleted yours :( Luckily I still had another tab open...ugh sorry. (BELOW IS SHAWN ANOMALY's ORIGINAL POST) The show doesn't hold back and that's why I love it. It grounds itself in realism so much more (beyond just the space/science stuff), no campy stuff where everything just works out or where the show forgets how realistic cause/effect works. In this show people's actions/words can lead to great things are rather awful things with no mercy. That's going to amplify itself as the seasons progress so brace yourself. You're being taken completely by surprise by the episode already ending....just know that you're going to have a lot of those. The episodes pull you in so hard that time blows right on by! Just be prepared for the other wonderful thing about The Expanse that's coming...BRUTAL CLIFFHANGERS and I'm not talking just season or mid-season finales either! (My response) I've left my TTRPG players with a few cliffhangers so its only fair I 'catch a few strays' with The Expanse :) Thank you for the warning, my friend!

Just a side point about Lopez's interrogation; did they talk to Amos?? There was that part in the previous ep where Sheb is like "I told them everything", but I don't recall Amos saying anything about himself being questioned...

I couldn't WAIT for your reaction to Sheb and I was not disappointed xD I didn't know the detail mentioned in the above comment about this being based off a ttrpg and that Sheb was a character that died. That's an awesome detail! One thing you'll see in this show that ALL the characters are fucking solid. Even the 'bad guys' you'll love to hate. It's like that in the books, too. Now that they've thrown Fred Johnson into the mix there'll be even more 'fire hosing', lmao. A neat detail, that made me appreciate the show even more, is that in the books, each one follows each show season more-or-less to point. However, the first book (so season 1), we ONLY get events from Holden and Miller's perspective. All this extra political stuff from Earth & Chrisjen we never learn. It just impresses me how dedicated the show writers & producers were to the source material.

My friend...this is AWESOME! Thank you so much for all this fantastic non-spoilery info! You are the best!

Love Expanse Day! Appreciate you, G!

I am just learning that The Expanse started as TTRPG...amazing! I love RPing so this adds a whole new layer of respect for this series. Thank you, my friend!

After watching your discussion The Expanse started off as a TTRPG. The person that was playing shed ended up having to leave and no longer play near the beginning of the game and so they worked with him to kill his character off shocking the rest of the group so this was the way they chose to handle it in the tv show much in the same way. Because of this origin you might also notice over the show that there are certain archetypes people may observe some traits of, both their strengths and their flaws. Theresa Yao was an awesome character and Jean Yoon does a great job acting that role . This show does an incredible job of getting actors even for minor characters giving incredible performances so you will never know if one of them is a long term character or just a smaller role.

To answer some of your questions and parts you might have been confused about. There were 5 stealth ships close to each other hidden as 1 in the beginning before launching their attack so until they started firing The Donnager would have only thought of it as being a single ship. The 3 types of armaments we are looking at in this show are: Torpedos: Good for long range, can maneuver on their own to try and avoid getting shot down. Used generally at long range only. They can have both conventional explosive warheads or nuclear ones. PDC's (Point Defense Cannons): These are the ones that look like Machine guns. They are used to generally shoot down missiles and are computer controlled. Generally they are not much use at a distance because at a distance the enemy can maneuver out of the way of the oncoming shots as the vectors can be plotted by the enemy computers. In close quarters though they can be highly destructive. Rail Guns: Big bad medium range guns that electromagnetically shoot massive tungsten slugs at a measurable fraction of the speed of light. So really fast and at medium range basically near impossible to move out of the way of. Can't be used long distance though as they are easily avoidable at long range. A couple other bits you wondered about: The goop they use is a type of fast curing resin sealant to seal the railgun shots. The Slingshot club. Essentially is a bunch of people betting on a sort of popular "sport" in the belt whereby someone will have a very basic ship without a full drive, just thrusters powered by ejection mass and get to high speeds essentially using gravity assistance of planets/moons to "slingshot" the ship at high speed through a planned course. They can get closer to planets to accelerate but run the risk of miscalculating and their ship getting ripped apart by the gravity/velocity/drag etc. That's how Bizi died. Finally. The move that Holden pulled at the end: They were all running to the Tachi as fast as they could as per Lopez instructions they turned off their magnetic boots. This was fine as long as the ship was under thrust providing "gravity". Mid run the thrust cut out and because of that they started floating upwards unable to maneuver themselves and would have just floated off into the middle of the room in the air due to their existing momentum. Holden then quickly attaches a line to Naomi, rotates himself and pushes off of her pushing her away but pushing him down to the walkway where he was close enough to activate his magnetic boots. He then pulled her back so she could get to the ground activate hers and they could both continue running towards the ship. Let me know if I missed anything that needed clarification.

Yay! Expanse day!
