Announcement 5th of March 2025 (I couldn't decide a title)
Added 2025-03-05 23:18:47 +0000 UTCHello everyone! Been a bit since I made one of these.
So, first of all the good stuff. Book 11 just released on Audible and is sitting at rank 3 on the store as of this moment! In case you haven’t noticed or want to snatch it up, the link is below:
https://www.audible.com/pd/The-Primal-Hunter-11-Audiobook/B0DWG4J2SH
Now for the less good stuff. I kind of joked about it in Book Announcements, but I said there may not be a chapter tomorrow because a new patch in WoW came out today, and I’m playing it with some friends... well, it looks like that may indeed be the case and not even solely because of WoW.
I’ve gone and done this silly thing called catching a cold, so not feeling super well. Coupled with this being the start of a new arc on Patreon and me having to think a lot about stuff, it’s definitely not a good combo.
Lastly, I want to add something a bit more personal. Recently (as in the last 3-4 months), I’ve started going to the gym again for the first time in over a decade. Covid and my lifestyle as an author haven’t been kind to my weight, and I decided to finally do something about it and lose a bit while also building some muscle. Things are generally going well in that regard, but recently, an old issue has begun to pop up more often.
As I’m sure many of you know, I’ve been dealing with wrist issues for a few years now. I’ve generally found ways to deal with it, and I write using wrist stabilizers and whatnot, but lifting recently, especially as I’ve gone up in what I can lift, has begun to cause trouble again in the wrist department. No doubt also due to suboptimal form. With my wrist braces, I can use the PC normally for most things with no issue, but writing especially can cause some problems.
I’m not gonna lie; I have considered going down to 4 chapters a week to lighten my workload a bit and give myself more time to relax. Nearly all of my peers have done something similar (HWFWM, Defiance of the Fall, Azarinth Healer back in the day, etc, etc.). And oh boy, do I understand why they did it. Especially after publishing. The bigger you get, the more work you have that isn’t simply writing chapters anymore.
You also reach a point in your life where you would be considered successful by most standards. I would say I’ve reached that, earning more money than I ever thought I would simply doing my hobby. When writing is something you enjoy, it makes it easier to do it every day and turns it into a dream job, but it remains a job, and sometimes, I do just feel like taking a day off.
However, I know that if I go down to 4, even temporarily, I will never get back to 5. Believe it or not, I view myself as an inherently lazy person, but I also know I’m pretty good at adapting to new normals, so I want to avoid creating less productive new normals. I also knew myself well enough to be aware that if I didn’t have a Patreon yelling at me for a chapter every weekday, I would be lucky if I even wrote a couple of chapters a week. That’s why I don’t plan on changing how many I publish a week here.
What I will do is take off tomorrow and Friday as my wrists are quite literally a pain today (had back day in the gym yesterday, and yes, I am getting lifting straps). After that, it will be back to regular programming. At least, that’s the plan.
Anyway, that got longer than I originally planned it to be, and I hope you all have a nice day and weekend. I know this post came with very short notice, but I was legitimately just joking originally about no chapter tomorrow, so I do apologize. If anyone is unhappy, just write me about a refund, and be aware that so far, I don't think I've ever not just given a refund when anyone asked.
TL:DR for those who only care when more words are out: No chapter tomorrow or Friday. Audiobook for book 11 is out today (or maybe tomorrow for you).
- Zogarth

When I say that your book saved me in my darkest moments, I'm not joking either. Had a bit of a rough break myself, despite being nowhere as successful as you are. I plan on changing that. For now, rest, recover, and know that I'll do the same. My life is good, and I'm sure yours is as well. Please take care of yourself, and if you don't, I promise that in the next released chapters moving forward I will glorify mushrooms and water levels if you go ahead and die off because you didn't take care of yourself. That's not a warning: that's a motherflippin' promise!

2025-03-22 09:48:07 +0000 UTCHave some old chapters been removed? I wanted to start reading at the beginning of book 12 and I can't find those chapters below 909 anymore. Also it would be amazing to have the "next/previous" links at the end of each chapter because this patreon website is very hard to navigate.

2025-03-08 07:25:34 +0000 UTCThanks for the post! In regards to the wrist thing: ive had issues specifically doing pushups flat handed (palm flat on the ground) ive found a good alternative is to do pushups on your knuckles (like a fist), or even better, (if you do pushups) do them while holding either the smallest dumbbells that prevent your fists from making contact with the floor, or use a decent weight and when you get to the apex of a pushup you can pull it up to your chest (alternate sides each pushup- pushup, left to chest, down, pushup, right, etc) ... its suprising how the little things could make such an impact. Same reason i stopped deadlifting, even with proper form i felt like it was ruining my knees. Also a reminder for lifting: except for very specialized scenerios its always better to use less weight while aiming for perfect form, instead of sloppy but with more weight. You will have extremely better muscle control and tone, and will also reduce the chance of injuries. Every now and then it might be fine, like an ego boost or to be proud of how much progress youve made to get a new personal max record, but just be careful! (And have a spotter if applicable) Keep it up though! Great work! And im glad i can contribute to your success while promoting a great writer doing his thing!

2025-03-07 13:16:01 +0000 UTCHope your wrist gets better Zogarth. Although i can't help laughing at my instant karma. I was teasing my friend giving him a spoiler from the last chapter released because book 11 was released and Im evil, telling him about how there are space ships that look like 1800 pirate ships that surf the void as if it was an ocean. for the record I give him small spoilers fake and real all the time so he never knows if im lieing or telling the truth.

2025-03-07 13:04:00 +0000 UTCHey zogarth, as another person with wrist issues I just wanted to put it out here. If your issue is carpal tunnel and you’re worried about the surgery putting you out of commission for a month, there’s a company called Carpal Tunnel Express. They are based in Florida and I haven’t checked on them in 3 years but I went. At the time $2k no insurance, bad carpal tunnel (waking me up at night hand constantly numb), they had me out in an hour and doing medium to heavy lifting after 4 days. For writing, the recovery time is probably 3 days? And the incision is 1/2” long on your palm, they just numb the area and let you go. I apologize if this is uncalled for but it worked for me, my right hand hasn’t had issues in … 3 years since the surgery. Hope everyone who bothered reading this far has a great day!

2025-03-07 11:49:10 +0000 UTCI definitely want more. And get the joke about heretic. But Villy would agree levels come slower in later grades. Quality or quantity is a hard ask when we all want both. And Jake is going to figure out how to use touch of the Viper to get more records when he fixes pallet.

2025-03-07 09:30:53 +0000 UTCThe Viper would definitely approve more you time. Have a beer and enjoy your success. I'm hungry for more but waiting can build anticipation.

2025-03-07 07:49:12 +0000 UTCThere is a program called "Dragon Natural Speaking" which is basically speech to text. You can combine it with other programs to spell check and do editing so to speak. Anyways hope your wrist gets better.

2025-03-06 21:35:55 +0000 UTCHello mr. Zogarth. I was where you are now. Fat, ugly, and lazy. I have too started going to the gym - and things have been great in that regard, too. Now, I am fat, ugly, lazy and exhausted. Also fuck the other guys. Jack is not Jason. Jack is not a Carl nor he is a Donut. Jack. Is. A. Primal. Hunter. Also I now own and operate 6 gyms. SMH. 2025-03-06 21:34:37 +0000 UTCTake care of yourself man!!!! I look forward to these and love reading them, but I’d much rather have to wait a few days for you to get better than for you to injure yourself further and have to take major hiatuses

2025-03-06 19:45:25 +0000 UTCLies!! Zog is just upping his cliff game to the next level. What cliff on fridays? He’s giving us a cliff on Wednesday to only resolve it next week! Truly practicing the Dao of Cliffing. Jokes aside, get well soon bro. Get healthy, stay healthy. Early chapters are cool but I’ll be honest. I love LOVE the books I read them even after having been subbed to your Pat for so long.

2025-03-06 17:30:43 +0000 UTCIf you want to be 4 chapters a week that is good if you want 3 chapters that is also good, we would rather you be healthy and happy than measurable. Writing long term can have some side effects we will be here happily devouring any chapters you give us, just let us know before hand you are moving to 4 or 3 chapters a week or even less, stay healthy be happy and Thank you for all the joy in reading your books!

2025-03-06 16:16:03 +0000 UTCDoctor here. If this is Carpal Tunnel and PT and splints are failing, hydrodissection is easy, safe, and fast. Basically they inject 10 ml saline to try to open up the tendon sheath the median nerve runs through. If it’s something else nvm I just see that so often in writers.
Dirk Gent Lee
2025-03-06 16:11:37 +0000 UTCI have the new audiobook to listen to and with the start of the new arc this is a perfect time for a break. Rest up and we will be waiting for you with open arms on Monday!

2025-03-06 15:58:43 +0000 UTCAs a lazy person I can totally relate to that part - but if you do feel like it’s healthier, then just go down to four? Or like to 9 every 2 weeks? Cause Villy knows we’d rather have that than none for a longer time period. (You’re the boss an it’s your health)
Linus Krieger
2025-03-06 15:53:35 +0000 UTCWhoa! I'm sorry. I didn't know you had wrist issues. I had several wrist issues until 2015. I, too, used to work out in the gym. I was a professional arm wrestler before. Because I am wired that way, I ended up taking the CSCS title just to avail the fallacious arguments from authority provision when arguing with proponents of the "bro code". [Oh thats Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist] On a serious note, it definitely helped me get rid of my wrist issues. I too do a lot of typing, as a writer and tutor, apart from the heavy lifting of course. Now, while I am not sure what your issue is, on the balance of probability, if auto-immune issues like arthritis are not the case, connective tissue under-development, triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) within the wrist joint getting injured, carpal issues tend to be the most common. Minimizing inflammation, eating collagen, and providing sufficient mechanical tension to stimulate muscle growth and especially tendon growth would be great ways to fix the problem permanently. Thankfully, in 2025, there are some methods that can serve as valid treatment possibilities. As an armwrestler, wrist strength and health is EVERYTHING. Everything else comes after wrist power. Now, I cured my wrist issues with a mix of devices, exercises, and diet. If typing is what causes wrist pain, you COULD try that Ergonomic mouse and wireless keyboard combo which allows you to keep the keyboard in such a way that you do not have to flex your wrists. Again, consume loads of collagen and NMN daily to eat for your tendons and ligaments- unlike muscles, connective tissues lack vascular nourishment. Then, my favorite exercise tool- The Sidewinder Pro Xtreme wrist roller saved my armwrestling life. I still use it to this day. It has been 13 years. You can order it online. Strengthen your forearms with it..Use the Time Under Tension + Isometric hold model of 45 seconds plus 30 seconds hold protocol for each set. Forearms are physiologically similar to the "soleus"/calf muscles that respond best to high workload instead of high load. You can also try using very light grippers-BUT WITH YOUR Wrist bent inwards in hook position- It's way tougher, trust me- to strengthen your radio-ulnar deviation which tends to deteriorate along with the TFCC, in persistent wrist injuries. Oh yeah, anything else, if you see this, you can contact me. I'll do my best to help. Once again, I apologize for not knowing about your wrist issues earlier.. https://sportgrips.com/shop/ https://www.goldengrip.com/products/popeyes-pronator

2025-03-06 13:36:40 +0000 UTCGet well soon, but have you considered using a voice to text app thing? (sorry for the repeat question if you answered this already somewhere else) If you keep an eye on it while dictating, it can do the... heavy lifting... and you get to generally spare your wrists more. :D

2025-03-06 13:31:41 +0000 UTCIm honestly impressed you kept up with 5 chapters for such a long time

2025-03-06 13:29:28 +0000 UTCFirst of all, great to hear you going to the gym. That rocks. Secondly, you should consider getting physical therapy (not just a trainer but a therapist) specifically for your wrists. Working out is great. Working out with a person specifically trained to handle imbalances and weaknesses is waaaay better. Thirdly, working every single day indefinitely is unattainable. You, unlike Jake, don’t have the mental or physical stats to maintain that pace for years without breaks. If you try without letting your health and mental energy pools fully recover you are going to put yourself in the same place Mira’s mom was and risk a soul injury. But I hear you about not easily upping your productivity once you down regulate it, especially given that money isn’t a motivator anymore. So instead of considering adjusting downward weekly, how about building in PTO into your publishing schedule by giving yourself the week off anytime a book is published on Audible or paper? You publish a few times a year, so that should give you a reasonable amount of PTO to recharge. And it ties your recovery to major milestones, so rather than it feeling like you are slacking off you are rewarding yourself for reaching your goals. You write about Mira’s mom having soul injuries from burning out, and about Jake taking time off after major events and accomplishments, so you instinctually already know this is how it should work. Time to take your own advice.

2025-03-06 09:20:15 +0000 UTC4 chapters are better than 0 chapters. Remember to take care of yourself, and also that mucles adapt faster than ligaments etc, so you may need to scale the weights slower for periods to have ligaments etc catch up as well. :) In the long term it'll be better!

2025-03-06 07:08:46 +0000 UTCHope you feel better. I would have to say it’d feel weird having just become a Patreon yesterday only for you to drop the release rate the next day 😂 but health first. I’m glad it’s staying the same though. Love the book. Also, not sure if you are but I’d recommend a personal trainer? With the amount this book makes it’s certainly within your budget. And the benefits of ensuring you are using good form while lifting, especially for new lifters is immense. It’s also good for accountability.

2025-03-06 02:18:51 +0000 UTCrubbery twist and flex bars? I'm afraid I am not familiar with that description, but I am going to say no, due to the flex word there. This Sidewinder device is a wrist roller where you have exceptionally great control over the resistance load, which allows for stellar progression. And I missed mentioning in the previous post, about training the Pronator Teres muscle which enables wrist rotation and is never trained by non-armwrestlers simply because they don't know about it and because they have no means for it. Yet, wrist rotation is crucial. Try the Top Roller device or something similar. Let me see whats the latest. One moment. Oh hey, the Popeye Pronator is out at Golden Grips. Check it out. I think Rogue Fitness has a variant now too so it is great.

2025-03-06 02:17:38 +0000 UTCIs this similar to the less expensive rubbery twist and flex bars? I got a set of those in three strength levels that I worked my way up through, and they helped both my typing wrist issues, and totally fixed my husband's wrist issues from iaido.

2025-03-06 01:15:14 +0000 UTCWhoa! I'm sorry. I didn't know you had wrist issues. Okay, I had wrist issues before. I too used to workout in the gym. Thankfully, in 2025, there are some modalities that can serve as valid treatment possibilities. Now, consume loads of collagen and NMN daily to eat for your tendons and ligaments- unlike muscles, connective tissues lack vascular nourishment. Once again, I apologize for not knowing about your wrist issues earlier.. https://www.goldengrip.com/products/popeyes-pronator

2025-03-06 00:41:14 +0000 UTCI keyboard for a living too and have the same wrist issues. I got CherryMX Silver switches for my keyboard (coming from blues), and it has helped more than I imagined it could. Fair warning though, there is a learning curve for a keyboard that requires almost no pressure to activate. With the silvers, I've learned to float on the keyboard when I write and never bottom out. When you get good at it, it feels buttery smooth. Again, can't emphasize enough... learning curve. You gotta let yourself heal first though.

2025-03-06 00:32:13 +0000 UTCGo down to 4 I love your novel your health is the only way we can enjoy it. So rest your wrist more and if you do feel bad or wanna give back give readers alittle “gift” every now and then with an extra chapter or 2. If you have it in your mind that 4 chapters a week is “normal” don’t do us favors by working harder than you need to.

2025-03-06 00:31:50 +0000 UTCListen my boy, I've been reading your books since you posted chapter 350 on royal road. I have been reading since before I had children, and now they're two years old. Time has been flying by, and you've been a constant companion in my lifes ups and downs. That being said, brother you deserve an extra day off per week if thats what your body is telling you to do. If your wrists are hurting from taking care of your body, you are in the fortunete position that most people can't do, but you can actually take time to rest yourself. I would recommend if you do drop to 4 a week, take Wednesday off. Having a 2-2 split of work days has been thoroughly studied and shown to give upwards of 30% productivity to workers compared to those who worked 5 days in a row. So even if you do work only 4 days, you get the time to add even more depth and make your writing even better. Perhaps maybe even longer chapters if it tickles your fancy. Regardless, if it's what you need, I won't take back my pledge to support you. I hope you get rest and I hope this comment finds you in good spirits. P.S. Zogarth Lifting > Malefic Viper No diff.

LA night life is fun but 😮💨 anyway, old injuries got worse too so finally after almost 15 years I’m back in and it’s kicking my ass dude! But I’m sticking with it! I hope you do as well! Stay alive to enjoy the money you earned, and keep supplying me with crack I mean chapters! Have fun playing WoW! I kicked that addiction a while ago! 😂😂😂 I miss it sometimes but like with my crazy ex I have to remember something can feel good and still slowly kill you ✌🏾

2025-03-05 23:33:47 +0000 UTCWhen I had wrist troubles I had a pad in front of keyboard to rest my wrist and that really helped. Also I saw a Chinese acupuncture and Tuina specialist and that really took care of the issue because the Tuina massage and acupuncture really resolved the issue for years now.

2025-03-05 23:33:10 +0000 UTCHope you’re okay, and the wrist issues disappear like they ever existed

2025-03-05 23:32:30 +0000 UTCNobody in their right mind would blame you for decreasing the weekly chapter count by 1. Take care of your long term health!

2025-03-05 23:30:51 +0000 UTCDo what you need to be comfortable. Weak wrists suck. I managed strained tendon syndrome with both of mine 18 years ago and they still flair up if I lift too much too often.

2025-03-05 23:30:50 +0000 UTCSounds good, idk if you've tried this but I like to write on my phone. I make a ton more typos but it makes it so I can be super lazy and just write while I'm going to bed or when I'm in the bathroom.

2025-03-05 23:30:37 +0000 UTCrest up and feel better!

2025-03-05 23:30:29 +0000 UTCNo worries! Gym is excellent! maybe consult a physical therapist or a certified medical massage therapist about exercises you could do to assist your wrists? Repetitive motion injury is one of the most annoying things! Whatever schedule you choose has my support, unless you pull a George Martin special!

2025-03-05 23:29:16 +0000 UTCThankfully we all have an audio book that should keep us preoccupied. Thank you for transparency, enjoy the Undermine and stay healthy! 😊

2025-03-05 23:28:48 +0000 UTCEven the most consistent author has to take breaks. I much prefer you healing up and being able to give us more of that Jake juice than cutting the story short because the hands don't work no more. Genuinely looking forward to the Pantheon of Life arc, with all the participants it is bound to be gleefully chaotic. Thanks for your work here, always a lovely lunch break.

2025-03-05 23:28:42 +0000 UTCGym is the best, after a few weeks you'll crave it as part of your life style. Dont over do it and slowly build up. Low impact cardio like elliptical is great. Maybe try some dumbells for the wrist and stay away from barebells/push machines. And id talk to your doctor about peptides like bpc 157 or sermorellin for your wrists, once you get more in shape. Bpc 157 Helped alot personally.

2025-03-05 23:28:09 +0000 UTClol… please mail me my $1 for the 2 missed chapters! I prefer nickels
David Deden
2025-03-05 23:27:41 +0000 UTCI understand if you go down to 4 chapters, but I love having your chapters to read with my morning coffee. I would rather shorter chapters or maybe split one between 2 days. Hell yea to the working out! The hardest part is making it a habit.
Gavin
2025-03-05 23:27:38 +0000 UTCI still remember when HWFWM put up the poll to ask whether readers wanted shorter chapters at the same pace or chapters the same length but less frequently. They voted for chapters of the same length. Inevitably it became shorter chapters less frequently. But going to zero chapters by instead not addressing a chronic injury sounds like the worst case scenario, so take care of yourself.

2025-03-05 23:27:14 +0000 UTCAs someone who also has issues with their wrists, hopefully the problem goes away soon Take care of yourself man!

2025-03-05 23:25:52 +0000 UTCYour health matters more than chapters. Take care of it. We will adjust if you change the delivery schedule; more opportunities for cliffhangers ;) WoW won’t help your wrists- I know. I’ve managed to avoid restarting that grind. Thanks for the update.

2025-03-05 23:25:42 +0000 UTCUnfortunate but understandable. Happens to a lot of authors. Best thing you can do is take care of yourself. Hope you feel better.

Ben
2025-03-05 23:24:29 +0000 UTCBut now Fridays won't be a chapter ending in a multiple of 5. You may need to take a few more days off to make sure that you're wrists are as well as can reasonably be accomplished. Spend some extra time plotting/planning whatever your preference for how to do it is.
Supremagorious
2025-03-05 23:24:20 +0000 UTCTotally understandable! Try and enjoy your rest!

2025-03-05 23:24:18 +0000 UTCHave you considered using speech to text software? Even with errors in transcribing it should help alleviate stress on your wrists.

2025-03-05 23:24:09 +0000 UTCIf you go down to 4 that is no issue. If it makes your life better and increases the story's quality go for it. Just get better and rest. Take care of those hands they are your life and we care about you and your story.
A. B. Edwards
2025-03-05 23:24:08 +0000 UTCFeel better man! Take care of yourself first and foremost. Glad to still be getting 5 chapters a week in the future but if you had to reduce wouldn't even mind since you have been going full bore for so long.
Bradley Anderson
2025-03-05 23:24:07 +0000 UTCHey man good for you for getting back into the gym and looking after your personal health! I know you said it takes a lot out of you you could write shorter chapters too? Honestly yours are some of the longest of any of the authors I read which is much appreciated but if it makes your life a lil easier it might not be a bad thing to try?
Borbino the great
2025-03-05 23:23:57 +0000 UTCGlad to hear you are getting back into the gym and I hope you get better and that this wrist issue goes away Zog! Take the time you need to rest mate
