ShipTeese Cruise

I thought I'd share a bit of the mini-show I did on The Friendship cruise last week. A little background... my friend Gary produces this rave cruise for the past several years, so I started bringing some friends with me to do a little show in the cruise ship theatre. I know Gary from when we were both 18 or 19 years old, and I was a heavily involved in the rave scene in Los Angeles. Gary was a DJ and show producer, and friends with my then-beau, who was one of the biggest rave party throwers of LA. We shut down Knott's Berry Farm for a rave party once, can you imagine?? It was a crazy time.

 I went to my first party in 1991, and loved it so much. I met free-spirited club kids and drag queens, and I crafted my own costumes and was a performance artist and dancer. Yes, we took psychedelics, which I'm not afraid to say these days, especially now that all the research on the benefits of psychedelic science which began in the 1940s is starting up again. I suggest watching How to Change Your Mind and Fantastic Fungi, both on Netflix. (*I will add that I would not recommend psychedelics for parties; I respect these medicines too much now to take them in an uncontrolled party scene. )

The dance party scene was a huge part of my life; I made lifelong pals, I overcame my shyness, and all those adventures paved the way the creative path I took in life. I felt like anything could be possible, and lo and behold, it surely was.

Anyway, we took a video of the show, it's not amazing quality, but whenever I can, we just set up the camera and let it roll. The ship was rocking, there's a whole lotta improvisation, and it's a blast to perform for a totally different audience. Tosca, Laszlo, Zelia and Dirty (also in this video!) join me for the cruise, along with a well-cast group of pals.
