I thought I would share some of my full dance rehearsal videos here. I can’t believe it‘s been just about a year since I did Danse Avec Les Stars in France! This was a quickstep, but we added some collegiate shag and Lindy Hop to the mix, since Quickstep does have some origins to the social dances of the 1930s and 40s. I brought in a couple of my swing dance pals, who happen to be located in Europe now, and they taught Christophe some shag and lindy. Maybe you can spot it?
Another fun fact… the beginning part of this dance has some kinda silly hand jive/60s moves. I didn’t really like it, and thought it was kind of silly, but I decided to be a good sport, but guess what? We got to the studio and they tried their idea with a bunch of dancers hands behind us, lo and behold, it wasn’t working, so we had to rework the entire beginning part.(It was probably also because I refused to dance in a minidress too, which was a parameter I set when we did the contract. They pushed miniskirts on me a few times.I am WILDLY uncomfortable in minis!!)
I was glad to see the hand jive thing go, but it‘s not easy to rework choreography at the last minute. This type of dance is exhausting to rehearse, it was one of the toughest for sure! But it was nothing compared to the week they put my vertigo to the test. That’s a post for another day…
