Hi everyone!
Turns out Apawthecaria isn't the only sneaky project I've been working on behind-the-scenes. I've also been putting together a 'scratch and journal' game called The Dig.
But Anna, what in the world is a scratch and journal game? Well I'm glad you asked, see, I've been looking at a lot of alternative printing options for projects and one of the things I stumbled upon were scratch posters. Essentially big scratch cards, these posters have a layer of PVC foil that you can scratch off with a coin or nail to reveal the image hidden underneath.
When I saw that they did them in A3 sizes, I though "you'd need a shovel to scratch that..." and so the idea of a Palaeontology game was born.
The Dig is a 21 day long journaling game where you play as the leader of a dig site looking for a diamond encrusted fossil known as The Crystal Spine. And as you can probably tell, its quite pulpy. I won't go into too much detail as I don't want to spoil the sort of events you can find in the game (and I ask that you not post screenshots when you play so as not to spoil it for other folk).
I'm really excited to ge this game out in the world but, and here's the rub, this is gonna be a bit of a logistical bugger and a shot in the dark to see whether or not this flies or flops. Poster tubes get pretty expensive when sent to the States (which is where most of you lot are) so I'm trying to find a distributor over there. But in order to work out if that's going to be worth their time/ effort, I need to get an idea of numbers.
So, what I'm going to do is put up The Dig as a pre-order over on blackwellwriter.com. If you're interested in this idea and would like to help it out, then head on over and pre-order. I'm only going to print 250 of these (unless it does smashingly well and I sell all 250 and have lots of demand for more).
