Monthly Expansion June 2021 - DELVE: Necromancy

The first monthly expansion just in time for the end of June!

Taking inspiration once more from Dwarf Fortress this expansion introduces Necromancers. Powerful magical units that can reach through the veil of death and pull lost dwarves back to serve your Hold.

This expansion introduces a whole new Discoveries table which can be found by drawing the 2♠ or the King of ♠ and I'm excited by this concept of sub-tables as it means the simple Exploration phase can open up into hundreds of potential events.

There are also new units which spice up the Undead options including: Undead Gunners, Ghouls, Vampires, and Liches.

Plenty of new rooms, legendary items, and ancient monstrosity traits as well.

And seeing as we haven't done it in a while, here is my take on a new monstrosity:

Cards Drawn: 10 - Swine, 5 - Legion, and K - Vampiric Aura

Result:

This land was once home to the foul giant known as Gabrok The Hungering, a tyrant that demanded lavish feasts every night. So vast was his hunger that it was said he could eat through an entire herd in a week. Now we know where the bones went...

Breaching the pit has released hundreds of undead animals that surge through the hold in a stampede of bone and rotten flesh. Even more terrifyingly, their cacophanous wailing has awoken the bones of your own refuse as undead boars surge to join the chaos.

Cries ring out from the lower levels as they realise that those killed by the herd join it, replenishing its numbers and turning on those they once called friend.

Somewhat like World War Z's tide of zombies but with undead farm animals. Lovely.

Next Month

Next on the Monthly Expansion docket is RISE and I'm trying to decide whether to go back into the guts of the game and rewrite the Morale and Mutiny mechanic or to work on something less crunchy. 

I'll post an update on that once I settle on what I'm doing.
