the claw would have most likely disintegrated alongside the vampire since stuff like clothing and jewelry also dusts when you kill one of them - there are actually a few fights where someone loses their stake because it dusts alongside the vampire, which is why the more experienced fighters like Buffy go for a poke and then pull the stake back out in the moment before the vampire explodes xD
